i couldn't reproduce it the day i went, but since i had the printout of the tsb he was cool with it and ordered the springs.
I went to the dealer last Friday after work and it did not pass the test. So they ordered the lift-springs and they should be in mid week. I also had the TSB printout with me and showed it to the service manager and he wasn't even aware of it. The TSB did have a date of Jan-2010, so I guess it's possible.

Not me so easy for me! I made the appt. Went in and they checked it out. Took an hour. Took time off work, went to grab lunch, came back and they said "We checked it out and it worked great everytime. If it gets worse call us and we can take a look at it again. But we have to validate the problem before we can replace parts." I said fine and left. A few weeks later, after reading that others were able to call it in or just have the dealer order the part. I called back and mentioned it is still doing it on occasion and also mentioned the TSB and said could you just get order the damn part! The service guy went on to tell me again that they have to "see it doing it themselves" or they will not order/fix it. At this point I thought. No more Mr. Nice white guy. I decided to get darn rude at this point and raised my voice! I demanded to speak to the Service Manager! After a few minutes on hold (apparently being filled in on my request/behaviour.) He said, since it's a TSB he will just order the part for me! Lets see what happens....

went to the garage. nissan hasn't issued the spring replacement in belgium yet. but they lowered the part where the hatch latches unto so that it is a tighter fit meaning the springs fly open harder causing the hatch to open up without any problems

I got this done today at the dealer and now I can hear some more road noise and there is a noticeable gap between the hatch and the body.

Is there a way to adjust the new springs? I might just go back to the original springs and pop the hatch twice. lol

Give it a little time, they will probably settle at least a little. Haven't heard of anyone else having more noise after the swap

yeah i haven't noticed a noise change either... man you must have got uber srpings...

what i'd be worried about is water leaking in if the gap is large enough...

My car just started doing this every once and while. It is very annoying. Guess I'm gonna have to take it in and hope they fix it.

UPDATE: Got my new springs the other day and now the hatch pops up like a charm. To me the new springs didn't look much different than the old ones, other than being stiffer. Other than that, they were the same length.

If you go back a few pages I posted some pictures of the new ones. I think Nissan kept the same housing but changed the internal spring (higher rating), but earlier revisions of the hatch spring housing was different.

I got mine replaced this week. All I did was talk to the maintenance manager about the problem. I then asked for an email so I could send the tech bulletin from Nissan that was linked here. She did some researched and called me 2 days later to tell me that the part was being ordered.

Huge difference since it was changed.

Thank you to everyone that posted the link.

My Z does not have the spoiler and have no problem with the hatch opening. I am wondering out loud if it is the weight of the spoiler that necessitates the heavier duty springs.
