Hatch usually seems to get stuck whenever there's even a minimal load on top of the hatch (aka snow) Given that, i would assume most of people experiencing such problem would have stock spoiler installed??

Wouldn't it be possible that Nissan installed weaker spring given that we have an aluminum(lighter) hatch and then thereby miscalculating weight of spoiler.

It's not that it's weaker, it's just not tall enough. Look at the comparison pictures.

wait just so i get this right, when its not cold out and the hatch is supposed to open normally.... how is it supposed to operate? Press the button.. and the hatch goes up all the way or press the button and the hatch just barely opens and then you manually lift it open? cuz for me its always been press the button and the hatch opens slightly and then i help it lift up so it extends all the way.

basically it should pop open on the initial push of the button...

but like mine for example: it always required an initial push of the button and another push of the button and lift of the hatch at the same time...

the hatch will pop up and clear the latch, but will not actually raise. the issue is that the hatch will partially pop but not clear the latch, thereby requiring the button to be depressed again and/or help lift the hatch through the latch.

I just got my Z last week and i couldn't figure out how to open the hatch. I felt sooo dumb. I looked for a button all inside, i went to the outside of the hatch like a Infiniti looking for a button. COULDN'T FIND IT.

So, I looked at the owner's manual. "oh there it is."

I had read this thread, before i opened my hatch for the first time thinking, " oh its a new car, it won't get stuck." BAM! it was it was stuck. So i relocked, unlocked then i had to manually lift it.

Is it supposed to lift by itself?

not all the way up it should pop open enough for you to pull it up without having to push the button a second time to release it from the latch...

this thread was started due to the trunk not fully releasing from the latch thus having to repush the button a second time and simultaniously pulling up on the trunk to open it...

As far as I know, they are all from one plant. According to the M in our VIN's, they are produced at Nissan's plant in Tochigi prefecture (Kaminokawa is the town to be precise).

370Z VIN no Decoding!

Mine has stuck (requiring 2 presses) since day one. The pennies work but I'm going to have them replace the springs because this is a new car (sport spoiler btw). Great thread!

Do not feel bad, the salesman who sold me the car had to call another dealership to figure out how to open the hatch! Leave it to me to make him look dumb my first test drive. Derhay

Incidentally, I've heard of hatches/trunks having a "dual stage" safety-type latch, but this is only if it was opened and then not closed all the way. It not opening when the button is pressed is definitely a problem with the springs, as the thread points out.
