Since there is a gazillion pages in this thread, I didn't search every page, but I found something on my car that might be part of the issue on some of your cars. I had my springs replaced which helped drastically, but recently I noticed one of the hatch bumpers (in picture) was missing. I just replaced the missing one tonight and it helps the hatch pop loose even more quickly.
I may be the only one with this issue, but just in case... ![]() Last edited by TreeSemdyZee; 07-02-2010 at 08:27 PM. |

you may want to be careful adding more than 3 pennies as some 350Z owners that went to 4 pennies dented the car where the springs and pennies rest when the hatch is shut.
As far as the weight goes it is for vibration dampening. I took mine out of the 350 and put it back in a week later as I was getting weird hatch noises until I replaced it. |

I recently went a visited a dealer (not the one I got my car from) about this issue. I spoke with someone and explained the situation and showed her a printout showing the new part number and part compared to the stock part. They seemed willing to help and had to bring the car into the shop to have a tech look at it. The tech agreed that it was an issue and we discussed what could the done. Talking to a guy at the parts desk I found that the replacement part shown in the post has actually been replaced as well, although I am unsure what was changed. Now the fun part... evidently noone I was dealing with knew about the Nismo Z and they started giving me a hard time about my "aftermarket" spoiler. I told them it was a Nismo spoiler and they immediately changed tune stating "yeah, it's a Nismo part, but it didn't come on the car." I sent the woman off to her manager and she returned less than a minute later understanding what I was trying to tell her. I now have an appointment next week some time to get the "springs" swapped out along with a nice well-needed hand washing. It took a little time and talking to the right people, but it looks like all will be well soon. Also, they came at me with the TSB for the 350Z stating that there wasntb one for the 370, but I kept pushing and they understood. Going in with all of the necessary information including part numbers definitely helped me get the dealer on my side, so when you go in, be prepared. Once I know the new-new part number I'll let you all know.

I picked up my replacement hatch springs today. Works perfectly now! I got them free under warranty. The service manager said there is an official bulletin coming out for the 370z soon for this issue so it was easy for him to get the part approved. (Australia)

Well you can downgrade my hatch to near 100% failure now. With just a touch over 1200 miles (she's broken in!) my hatch fails to open almost all the time. When I bring it in for the first service I will get it resolved.

I went to the Nissan dealer today and spoke with the Service Manager. I explain to him the issue I was having and asked him to take a look at my trunk and try to open it for himself. The first two attempts he made trying to open my hatch resulted in double depressing the hatch release button as well as lifting up on the hatch as well.
I had printed the work ticket that vipor uploaded here and gave it to him while I was there. I explained to him that it was a bigger issue than just my z, and told him about this thread and the 350z stuck hatch thread as well. He said that no one with 350z's ever came to him complaining of the hatch not opening properly, as well as the 370z'ers thus far. I thought that was odd considering the sheer amount of people in both ours and the 350z forum that are having the trunk release issue. After his first two initial attempts, the hatch opened flawlessly there after. So he retrieved a key fob for a blue 370z on the lot and tested the hatch, and no issues with it at all, the hatch popped open the first time and everytime there after. So he decided to take the spring lifts from that z and swapped them with mine. It seemed to work! I was supprised, but still in disbelief that it would remedy the situation long term. The service manager gave me his business card and extension, he said give it a few days and call me if it continues to be a problem. I thought to myself sure why not, it seemed to be working fine. I drove straight home, it took about 10 minutes to get to the house. I pulled in the garage, got out and was about to go inside the house and thought what the heck i'm going to give it a go and see what happens. Guess what happened! thats right it did not open on th first attempt. Not only did it not open on the first attempt, it did not open on the second or third attempt either! However, on the fourth attempt and every attempt there after it opened flawlessly. So I immidiately called the service manager back and explained what had just happened. He then asked me to re verify the part number on the ticket and said he would call me as soon as the new spring lifts came in. So I shall wait and hope these new spring lifts solve the issue at hand once and for all... |
