I removed the weight that is on the hatch near the latch underneath the trim. It seemed to fix the issue for me (for now) and the hatch doesn't really seem any more difficult to close.

you may want to be careful adding more than 3 pennies as some 350Z owners that went to 4 pennies dented the car where the springs and pennies rest when the hatch is shut.
As far as the weight goes it is for vibration dampening. I took mine out of the 350 and put it back in a week later as I was getting weird hatch noises until I replaced it. |

I recently went a visited a dealer (not the one I got my car from) about this issue. I spoke with someone and explained the situation and showed her a printout showing the new part number and part compared to the stock part. They seemed willing to help and had to bring the car into the shop to have a tech look at it. The tech agreed that it was an issue and we discussed what could the done. Talking to a guy at the parts desk I found that the replacement part shown in the post has actually been replaced as well, although I am unsure what was changed. Now the fun part... evidently noone I was dealing with knew about the Nismo Z and they started giving me a hard time about my "aftermarket" spoiler. I told them it was a Nismo spoiler and they immediately changed tune stating "yeah, it's a Nismo part, but it didn't come on the car." I sent the woman off to her manager and she returned less than a minute later understanding what I was trying to tell her. I now have an appointment next week some time to get the "springs" swapped out along with a nice well-needed hand washing. It took a little time and talking to the right people, but it looks like all will be well soon. Also, they came at me with the TSB for the 350Z stating that there wasntb one for the 370, but I kept pushing and they understood. Going in with all of the necessary information including part numbers definitely helped me get the dealer on my side, so when you go in, be prepared. Once I know the new-new part number I'll let you all know.

I picked up my replacement hatch springs today. Works perfectly now! I got them free under warranty. The service manager said there is an official bulletin coming out for the 370z soon for this issue so it was easy for him to get the part approved. (Australia)

nice  so the official bulletin, is a release for all of nissan or just in Australia? |
Well you can downgrade my hatch to near 100% failure now. With just a touch over 1200 miles (she's broken in!) my hatch fails to open almost all the time. When I bring it in for the first service I will get it resolved.
|
Update: i havent had any more problems other than the one time with the three pennies...
i will follow up with my Nissan Dealership this week to see if there has been a TSB released or when/if it will... |
On the phone right now! Going to dealer later. One of my springs(drivers side) is loose and nearly falls out on it's own as it is.

Initially I had about a 75% success rate when popping my hatch and thought little about it. About a month or so ago I was working on some projects around the house and it seemed more like 0%. It was hotter (than now) and was getting a lot more use. I'm at the dealer right now getting the springs replaced and I go to show the new service tech and it worked 2 out of 2 times, lol.
