IIRC, the boot is free to turn in the plastic piece that screws into the hatch, so any mark on it would probably not be for alignment.

Just went out and looked... For the life of me I can't find any green dot!

Mine are warranty replacements from dealership. Maybe they mark them differently. Thanks for checking! I'll play around and see if readjusting them makes any difference.

Update: I found a fix. I added another nickel to each side in boot and it works. So I got it fixed for $.20. It has been 3 days now and works every time!

2nd Update: Even with 2 nickels, it stopped popping open after 1 week.

It appears as though there isn't a permanent fix for this yet. Even with the new springs and the "penny" or "nickel" fixes, the springs just compress again over time. It's a design flaw in the hatch. The load of the hatch is not enough for two springs. If there were more springs to share the burden of initially lifting the hatch, it likely wouldn't be an issue. This is something Nissan should take back to the drawing board and fix in future models. Unfortunately for us, there's not much we can do other than temporary fixes.

Still no problems... I think this seriously may be the most simple solution

problem popped up again after a while of not opening the hatch. Left the hatch open for 10-15 minutes to let the washers regain their shape and all good again...

Nope, the hatch should lift up about 6 inches to 12 inches so you can with one hand push the button and with the same hand lift it to a fully open position.
