i believe its because the original 2009 design for the asian and european market did not have the spoiler.

The american market has both the sports package spoiler and the nismo spoiler, placing more weight on the stock springlifts that were (imo) not designed to carry the extra weight of the two spoilers mentioned...

Interesting, my 2003 Z had the same issue and subsequent TSB issued. Why would they make the same mistake 6 years later.

That's the correct answer, but it still begs the question ......... same thing happened with the 350 ........ no spoiler cars had no issue with the springs, spoiler and NISMO cars did......... so why didn't they learn from that one? :icon14:

nissan did release a tsb for the 350z springlifts, i stumbled across it when i created this thread.

i guess they thought they corrected the issue with the 09 production year, but as time went on they recieved enough complaints so for PRs sake they issued a tsb for us...

Morning buddy ........... it does make you wonder why they just didn't put the heftier springs on to start

So, now that a TSB is issued for the stuck hatch release, does that make it a warranty issue or what is the use for the TSB?

TSB means Nissan corp is stepping in and saying the dealerships must change them if they can produce the problem, under warranty. Now it does state they have to produce the problem but when I went mine worked fine but the guy still filled out the report and had the tech change them anyways.

Just saw this thread and also that the TSB was released yesterday. I just had mine replaced under warranty two weeks ago. Funny thing was that I could not replicate the issue at the dealership. So I had to video tape the stuck hatch while the car was at home and take the video tape to the dealer to prove it was an issue.

One note: It did seem to get worse in COLD weather, dunno if this was mentioned on the previous 33 pages of posts.

Is the poll is mislabeled? What I mean is that my stuck hatch started out as a SOMETIME issue and as time went on it became an ALL THE TIME issue. So I will have to say it was sometimes but in the end ALL the time....hum ...which one to choose...going with SOMETIME as that is how it started out.

Oh well it's fixed and very minor compared to my old 06 Z33. Now the bro's Z34 hatch is also sticking. One Z34 down, one to go.

Wow I can't believe 33 pages on a sticking hatch. I wonder how many pages can be generated on the passenger door handle popping?…anyone?….anyone?

Update: Current Poll Stats is:

YES (ALL THE TIME) = 92
YES (Sometime) = 167
NO (Never) = 96

Mine did,t stick until today when I had her out in the cold weather. This morning, the hatch stuck twice out of two attempts. Will report this to dealership next time I'm there. The cold temperature does make a difference. My car does not have a spoiler and I still have the problem.

Stuck Hatch

Cold temperature does not make a difference. I live in South FL and it get stuck just the same.

ZForce 02-04-2010 09:55 PM

Good to know that sunny Florida also has the sticky hatch issue and that it’s not just the cold weather.

Maybe it was in my case that the car was purchased in Mar 2009 and that I open/close the hatch on an average 8 times a day. And when the weather turned cold that it was not the cold weather that added to the issue BUT that the car had seen more days since the day it was purchased.

My bros 370Z was picked up two weeks later after mine and sure enough his started 2 weeks after mine got to that annoying point. Sure is a coincidence!

Thanks, Great thread.
I printed off the photo of the two spring lifts side by side, and presented them to my dealer. They ordered and installed them, no charge.
Now my hatch flies open.
I also phoned Nissan Ca. and informed them of the problem.

supraman626 02-05-2010 04:21 AM

when i press the button the hatch does pop open slightly, i just have to give the hatch a little lift for it be fully open. i have always thought this was normal since the hatch is slightly heavy.

Is this the problem everyone is having or does hatch the not pop open at all when u press the button?

That's the problem. When you pop the hatch, it is supposed to clear the latch completely.

Amusing, I've been using the 6cent fix for awhile now, but i decided to take them out and see if i still get the stuck hatch...its not there anymore! i still want to get the larger springs though because i just know its going to get stuck again. hopefully they dont force me to prove that it didnt work....with my luck it wont get stuck for another month :/

StillenZ 02-05-2010 10:48 AM

yea so my hatch stuck 6 times in a row so I took it back to the dealer and couldn't get it to replicate... they ordered the parts anyway and told me they are on backorder til March sometime
