Default OBDII Fault Code P0463

The other day I was driving along and I heard a large thump sound. It sounded like it came from the roof but a visual inspection showed nothing. Around that same time, a check engine light came on and lead me to believe maybe it was something under the hood? Can't say for sure if it was related.

Anyways, I plugged in my OBDII scanner and up popped this little gem:

Fault Code P0463: Fuel Level Sensor Circuit High Input

There is information on it here: P0463 DTC: Fuel Level Sensor "A" Circuit High

and here: P0463 Fuel Level Sensor Circuit High Input

I have noticed sometimes the fuel tank meter jumps to low (like three pegs) and then jumps back up to half a tank.

This car is brand new and only has 951 miles on it. I have been following the break in period rules and I'm not sure what that load sound could have been. Taking it to a dealer on Saturday to get this straightened out.

Just wondering if anyone else had similar issues with this code on their Z?

From P0463 Fuel Level Sensor Circuit High Input :
Quote:
Potential causes of a P0463 code include:
The signal circuit to the fuel sender is open or shorted to B+ (Battery voltage)

The ground circuit is open, or ground path may have high resistance due to rust or missing ground strap on fuel tank

Damage to the fuel tank could cause problem in fuel level circuit

There's an open in the fuel lever sensor's resistor to ground

Possibly faulty instrument cluster

Less likely is the possibility that the PCM, BCM, or Fuel pump computer module has failed
Edit: Sounds like a warranty claim to me.

Maybe I'm behind the times, but what is the can of SPAM supposed to mean? I didn't advertise anything.

Anyways, I took it to the dealer and it has something to do with a fuel sensor (big surprise). They ordered the part under warranty. I'll be going back in this week to get it replaced.

There's a lot of spammers yesterday and today. They posted crap in your thread. It's not you he's referring to.

Hey tuna, how did this end up turning out? Did the dealer fix the problem after all or has it reoccurred? Mine just went on last night. P0463. Same thing ughhh... I'm at 9500 miles and it's a 14. Wondering if anything might void that warranty based off my signature below? Any help from anyone is appreciated. Thank you.

Sorry for the necro, but I searched and could never find the definitive answer to this. My Z has this issue. It happens around 275ish miles after a fill up. The dots jump down to empty then back up to about a quarter tank, and sometimes this code is thrown.

2013 370z 50,000 miles

Anyone ever figure this out?

I replaced both my level sensor and it still reads nothing. Looking at the fsm now and can't find where the fuse is for the fuel gauge.

Might be in the IPDM or the fusible link block at the battery terminal. If you can't find IPDM fuse locations in OM or FSM, there is a diagram inside the IPDM cover.
