Intake Sucked Water
A lot of people might know about flash flood warnings there was for Moreno valley/riverside area, well they were true. I was on my way home from work when I got a text that said watch out for puddles, its raining really hard. My immediate concern was the injen intake. I didn't find any big puddles until I got to my driveway. Now my driveway is already not lower car friendly, so I always have to go slow to take care of the CF Lip. Sure enough, the gutter was pretty flooded, so I tried to make my entry as quick as possible. I got past it then the car immediately shut of. The first thing that went through my head was well there goes my engine. I tried to start it again but all it would do is turn over. So I let it sit over night for the rain to die out and for it to dry. This morning I turned it on and the car started fine. When i drove it normally it was fine. But when I get on the throttle, the engine bogs and cuts the throttle. A friend of mine said the filters might still be wet and that might be what the MAF sensors are picking up so I'm currently pulling the front bumper off to check the filters.
I know the engine is probably f***** and its not gonna be covered by any warranty or insurance, but if anyone has any good ideas I can try let me know. Thanks in advance. |

If it was caused because of flooded waters than your insurance should cover it. I wouldn't drive it at all though. To be honest your probably should have taken it to a mechanic and never tried to turn it over. The reason cars get hydro locked is because a lot of water gets into the engine and since you can't compress water it will bend connecting rods and such. But a little bit of water can get into your engine and it will burn it off as long as its not enough to cause a compression issue.
Now go to a mechanic and have him take care of it. Since you drove it your not hydro locked so thank whatever deity you believe in for that. FYI for visual purposes:

Uninstall the Injens, and take out the tubes, they're probably wet, your MAFs are probably wet and same with your filters, then clean and dry all of them and reinstall, you should be good to go

WOW. I don't know what to say but what was going through your head? Let's see, you didn't just move in, so you must have has some thought there may be some water in the swale. Did you think that maybe backing in might be a better idea? You really thought the water would evaporate overnight? Did you flunk science?
Seriously, if you clear the filters and it starts, you're golden. Best of luck with your situation. I can only hope you think the next time something like this turns up in your future.

My thoughts exactly, back to stock and take it to Nissan. If not under warranty insurance can foot it.

If it's running fine at idle, your motor isn't "fcked" I'm with the jury on the fact your filters are still wet. Now stop driving like an asshat.
