Low Mileage maintenance
Hello guys,
I just wanted to ask a few questions in terms on maintenance on a Z which is kept at low mileage. I bought my Z with 3.3k Miles last May 2012. Now, about a year later, it is roughly at 6.7k Miles. I've done a couple oil changes, but I am wondering what else should I consider servicing. I'm pretty clueless when it comes to maintenance, especially since I keep it low mileage. I am doing about 3k Miles a year. Should I change out the break fluid soon? Power Steering Fluid? Etc. ( After running a VIN Check, the previous owner seemed like he only had the Z for like 4 Months before he sold it, he had it around Oct 2011, I bought it May 2012) Any input will be highly appreciated, thanks! |

Brake fluid every year for me, but I guess you can get away with every 2 years. Same with the power steering fluid. They're both cheap, so why not?
Change your diff fluid too

Thanks Andrew! You're always helpful!
Yea, they are not to pricey. I'll probably do break fluid pretty soon then and possibly power steering fluid. Didn't you have them use the Brake Fluid they use for the GTR? |

Yessir, went with GTR fluids, this time around something the forum suggests, and I'll do it at home

Every time I've bought a used car I immediately change out every single fluid, regardless of the mileage. That way i can start keeping track of maintenance from a known mileage, not a guess as to when the previous owner did it.

6.7k miles there shouldnt be much to worry about yet. but always good to check your fluid and replace if they look dirty. if you plan on flushing the brake fluid though, there's 2 bleeder valves on each front caliper for the sports package ones, the rear one is hidden and can be missed if not looking carefully

I cycle my clutch fluid as soon as it darkens, but never a full flush.
Brake fluid? My fluid is still transparent, it's over 4 years old, I guess I could change it but I think I'll wait a bit. I have to be careful with my brake pedal it's still so stiff. I'm not a spirited driver nor a tracker so I'm OK with waiting a while. |

The main reason you replace brake fluid is the fact that it absorbs water. 4 years is too long.

I agree it is hygroscopic but I don't go looking for trouble. If I have an issue I'll swap it out (not sure if I'll gravity drain or pump change or use pressure method) but as long as the pedal feels good and I'm stopping I'm leaving it alone. Hey, my brake pads still look brand new, the fluid hasn't dropped at all or changed color (my two criteria for judging), so I think I'll leave it alone for now.
Thanks! Last edited by Fountainhead; 08-22-2013 at 04:21 PM. |
