Took my '10 roadster in for service - my service guy (who's really great) said "there's a recall about to come out to replace your steering lock. There have been some problems. Let's go ahead and replace yours." I've been reading about the problems here but haven't experienced any myself - but no time like the present so they swapped it out. He said there's also an extended warranty on the recall/replacement part.

Good call to just go ahead with the replacement. By the time you experience problems, it will be too late.

Wow. I never thiught this day would come.

Should I put the fuse back first? Or just forget about the whole thing?

Good point. It's like replacing an old time bomb with a new one which set the timer little bit back in the future...

We haven't read much faulty on RevDs just because it's the newest and haven't had enough time to prove them good or bad. But I am sure I already read somewhere the RevD failed too. And please think... There must be a reason for Nissan giving up using the SLU on the newest models!

While it's good to have this recall, maybe we should have a new poll for people encountered SLU failure AFTER replacing with the new unit.

FINALLY!!!

MY SLU just failed the other day and I was calling to NIssan to make complaint when they informed me just 5 minutes ago that there is a recall for the dreaded SLU!!!! I can confirmed that the campaign is P3208 and already received a case number. I ordered by SLU online yesterday and will be reimbursed for it. Dealer will handle installation!

It's a celebration b1tches!

Lol, maybe, but I want Nissan to lose money, and once my warranty is about to end again, I'll pull the fuse

(I even changed my signature)

Maybe they have fixed the problem with the latest version of the SLU, but I have serious doubts. If the "fix" is just replacing the SLU, I'll put my fuse back in, get the latest and greatest SLU, and then pull the fuse again.

I'm not going to pretend to grok the system, but it looks to me like the BCM should be reflashed to ignore the SLU. Then the SLU can be removed completely.

What's the point of putting the fuse back in to take it to the dealer, have them mess around with it, then pull the fuse back out. Aren't you in the same exact spot you were before, only difference is you had the dealer mess with the car? Only way I'm taking my car to the dealer is if the fix is completely removing the SLU. Although I cut the wire on mine, not sure if that will be a issue once they start messing with the SLU?

I haven't checked, but assume my '09 has one of the earlier revisions that is almost certain to fail. There is a chance that they now have a revision that will last at least a little longer than the one I have. I will pull the fuse again because I have no use for the steering lock - I would have eventually pulled the fuse just to shut the thing up. When I sell the car, I can tell the buyer it has the latest-and-greatest SLU installed. If they want to re-enable it, I'll put the fuse in for them.

With the cut wire, they may give you the same argument you just gave me: What's the point?
