Default TSB for "fuel tank difficult to fill"

Not my phrasing...

Lately, the automatic shutoff valve by the gas filler seems to stop the pump at random intervals, rather than when the tank is full (although it will do that as well).

There IS a TSB for this issue for the 350Z...

TSB 05-048 Fuel Tank Difficult To Fill - Nissan 350Z & 370Z Wiki

Anyone know of a TSB for it on the 370Z?

I looked over the listing but other than the "vent valve" TSB, I didn't see any obvious candidates. Is that it? No CEL and it does work, but, as the name implies, it is indeed a bit difficult to fill the tank

Also, a search did not turn up anyone having this problem -- anyone have thoughts on this? Anyone else with this problem?

I have never had this problem nor have I seen it on THIS forum... I know I had this problem either on my last Maxima, or a loaner I got from the Nissan dealershit... (Sorry, my memory is hazy on the subject) But it only happened at certain gas stations...

Try opening the nozzle valve only part way open.
Try holding the nozzle at a different angle.
Try a different gas station.

Yeah, it's a bit of a bítch though... I remember beating that G'damn hose into the filler because it kept pissing me off, lol
And because it worked at different pumps/stations I didn't think it was the car

so I have had this issue pop up once or twice. Don't know how rampant or serious it is, however, it is a bit embarrassing to start up the engine and have to shut it down again because your tank is only half full. It's also rather embarrassing when there's a long line behind you.

Another minor annoyance, I suppose, is the shallow angle at which the gas nozzle inserts into the gas tank. More than once, during early ownership of the Z, I've had the nozzle pop out of the tank because of a hiccup in the line (either someone else finished filling their tank so there was added pressure on my line or when my tank was full and the force of the fuel stopping was enough to throw it from the tank). These days I just stand next to the tank with a hand resting on the nozzle to make sure that doesnt happen.

Had this annoying issue on the G35 thankfully a tsb was issued to fix it. Man I hope it doesn't become an issue for the Z!

I actually have this problem. Or at least this may be the issue. When I fill up, no matter what gas station I go to, the fuel gauge is always 1 light short of showing full. I've had the car since 12/4/12 (it's an 09) and filled up probably 8 times? And only once did all the lights illuminate. Lol

There is at least one last-dot-doesn't-light thread on this site and, IIRC, there is a TSB. Searching for "fuel gauge" should find it for you.

I can't actually find a TSB for it and I've searched for about 30 minutes now, lol

Here's a link to the first thread I found when searching for "fuel gauge". Several complaints about there being numerous posts about the same thing.

I saw no mention of a TSB, so maybe I was just dreaming. Sorry.
Is there some place on the web to search for Nissan TSBs. I vaguely remember someone mentioning such a site, but it may be another dream.

Edit: Found another thread. Someone claimed there was a TSB, but nobody ever provided a number. Apparently, the problem is the fuel level sensor(s). Some ppl reported getting it fixed under warranty.

Yeah, the fuel gauge light thing is related (I think) to faulty fuel level sensor, but that is unrelated to this annoyance.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no TSB for the fuel light issue.

Mine's a 2011, and it has a different filler cap than the 09-10, so maybe they changed something around with how the vent system works too?

Could the "vent valve" TSB be involved? I didn't think so, but maybe I'm wrong -- its not Z specific...

Otherwise, I'll try keeping the nozzle out a bit further during fill-ups to see if that helps.

Yeesh -- that sucks

What was the solution, or was it random/intermittent and unsolved?

This happened to my 2012 a few times.

I assumed it was because my car found out I wasn't putting Shell gas inside so she was kinda upset at me.

According to the drawing on page FL-10 of the 2009 FSM, there is no shutter valve at the end of the fill tube. There is a vent tube that, if plugged, could cause your symptoms.

Check the Fuel section (FL) of the FSM for your year model.
