15,000 Miles Maintenance Cost
So i was at my dealer today getting my oil change. They offer free lifetime oil change and they have this policy "100% engine life warranty." But that is only if you get all your maintenance done through them. So i'm at the 9000 mile mark and after i got it done, the tech guy says my upcoming oil change is almost at my 15,000k engine warranty maintenance which has oil, air cabin filter, radiator conidtioner, etc..... and its $200. Does anyone know if this is a good price or above average or average? Or is this guy trying to rip me off because the car dealership is trying to reel me in using their "100% ENGINE LIFE WARRANTY!" ?

15K should be oil and air filters (2 engine 1 cabin). 175-200 sounds about right given part cost and labor for what I list (not the lesser tasks you listed) - b |

Radiator conditioner is BS, and whats this "100% engine life warranty" 80,000 miles down the road the motor pops is this dealer going to replace it for free? If so I want this warranty. Seems like the dealer is taking you for a chump by making you bring the car in for services that you can do yourself at half the price.

This is from the manual on the Less Severe Schedule 2 maintenace for 15K miles:
❑ Replace engine oil and filter ❑ Replace in-cabin microfilter1 ❑ Rotate tires (except all 370Z) ❑ Inspect the following: __ Automatic transmission/CVT fluid4 __ eCVT fluid (HEV)3 __ Brake lines & cables __ Brake pads, rotors, drums & linings __ Differential oil2 __ Drive shaft boots __ Manual transmission oil __ Propeller shaft (4WD/AWD/RWD) __ Transfer case oil (4WD/AWD) On the more severe schedule 1, besides the inspection items it only has you changing the brake fluid. I see NOTHING about radiator servicing or inspection. Sounds like they are trying to soak you for more money for services that are not required or needed. |

They are using BG products as per the menu, we use MOC at work. If you follow the MOC( I am sure BG has a similar program) schedule with their conditioners they offer a warranty on that component. For example, the engine. If you change the oil with the MOC engine treatment in our mileage packages, they offer up to 4k protection on the engine for 225k(which most people advertise as lifetime) as long as you follow the schedule. Same thing for the cooling system, full system, trans etc.
that price seem fair for a dealer, its about the same on our Honda menus. the 15k is 3 basic items, oil, air filters, cabin filter. The rest is because they are following manufacture maintenance suggestions on paper, they will check the brakes and tires, quick look underneath and be done. The most important of all is keep records of all maintenance if it is done else where, if your engine blows at 59k Nissan is gonna want to see your records, Honda requests them if the maintenance is not done at the dealer.

Just had mine done here in Germany. I have a great dealer, did the items listed - oil, filters, inspection and flushed/replaced brake fluid. Price 270euro's w/tax.

If that includes a cabin air filter, that's not a bad deal. Engine air filters are $60 for the pair, then you're talking only $130 for the rest of the parts and installation. If that includes an oil change with ester oil, you're only paying about $40 for other parts and installation. The coolant conditioner sounds fishy to me, personally I would skip that, but everything else sounds good. That's not a bad deal at all. I work at a dealership and wouldn't be surprised to see one of our guys sell a similar service for $299.
If you're not concerned about their 'lifetime engine warranty' then I would suggest picking up two air filters from one of the vendors on here(part number 16546-JK20A) and maybe a cabin filter(part number B7277-1EA0A) and installing them yourself. Jomer at Fred Beans Nissan, one of the site sponsors, is a great guy to deal with. I sell parts at a Nissan dealer and still buy parts from him. Doing this stuff yourself would save you a few bucks and would be a nice little project. |
