Steering Lock Covered by Warranty at 48k ??
I've fallen victim to the dreaded steering lock malfunction yesterday.
I leave my house to go fuel up two street corners down then when she was full after 110 $$ she wouldn't start up. Lucky me the gas station i was at had also a mecanics shop i brought my cars to so we pushed her away from the pumps and started to try various methods to start her up without any luck. I was looking on this forum on my phone while waiting over there and i fell across the threads about the steering lock malfunction. At first i told my self i guess I'll have to wait till monday (since we were saturday and sunday was easter) to get it towed to the dealer for the fix. We pushed the car inside of the garage since my windows wouldn't come back up after opening and closing every time. Then easter sunday I come back to the forum and find I might be able to start her temporarily until I change the steering lock. I go back to the garage and try the "bring the streeing wheel up and down" method with no luck. Then i tried the "knock on the steering lock itself" method and vrrrroooomm she started. Brought her back home and waiting till tomorrow to call the dealer OR order the part myself if I'm no longer covered by the warranty. My question is, am I still covered on the warranty for the replacement of the Streering lock if i'm at 48 xxx miles ?? Has anyone got it replaced after 36 000 miles ? |
Sorry to hear about your steering wheel lock. I had mine changed at 33k miles so i was under the 36k. Not sure bout being covered after that. Guessing you didn't buy the extended warranty.. Good luck man! Try talking to them.. you never know...

I actually bought it used but the worst that could happen is i'll have to order it and install it myself :shakes head: |
Or you could do the by pass trick to the lock.

I thought once you took the lock apart and taped/zip tied the correct parts. That it would start and work, it just will not have the lock safety mechanism and the warning light would stay on. |
So what does opening it up and taping it like korrupt did really do? Just allow it to move more freely, but it could still fail/jam?
|
I just order a new steering lock actuator from courtesy Nissan. Once I get it i'll slip the new one in and I'll open the old one up and see if I figure out what jams but I think korrupt has the right way so far. Maybe even try to take out the two switches korrupt taped down to see if it'll stil work without them.

Sounds like a plan...
