Ah, now the strategy dawns on me. Buy one of those suction oil change pumps that extracts through the dipstick. Claim consumption, pull 1 qt every 500 miles while they do the test, get a free new block.

They put some sort of tamper proof seal on the dipstick so that you can't do that lol. U can always drain a little bit from the oil pan, not sure if they seal that too.

Labor nigh offset it. Also, a service department is not the best environment to rip the whole thing apart in. There is also the caveat that the dealership employees don't have the hands on that the original builders do, etc.

Further, if the bottom end was starved, who is to say there isn't damage to the top end? Just because the bottom end is what caused the noise doesn't mean the top end isn't damaged too.
