Clutch/transmission problems
So this morning I get in my car to drive to work and the clutch sinks to the floor and only comes back up maybe halfway. I check the fluid and it's fine.
I try to see if it will go into gear and with the engine off it works fine. With the engine running it will not. The car would start to move if I pressed the shifter towards first until finally gained enough speed to engage fully. As I drove it to the dealership it the clutch would not disengage. To shift I had to lift off the throttle and rev match the upshift to engage the next gear. The entire time the pedal was halfway down and pretty useless. As time progressed the clutch pedal started to have an effect and would finally disengage and allow me to shift normally. I bought the car with 13k miles a few months ago and currently have 30k. I commute roughly 120 miles a day and from a stop I rev to maybe 2k. I don't abuse the clutch and yet the dealership (Baker Nissan) says it is the clutch because the fluid is at the appropriate level and the 370z transmission is "kind of weird like that; when the clutch gets low it won't let the gears engage" Pretty much verbatim. The thing is the clutch doesn't slip and had only a problem with disengaging, not with engaging. Not here to knock anyone, but having been an aircraft mechanic for most of my professional career I would prefer something more technical and substantial. As far as I can tell they just checked the fluid and assumed I abuse my clutch. Any suggestions? |
Failing csc?

From the stories others have told here it does sound like a possible CSC issue. As a diagnostic I would bleed the clutch line with new fluid in case there is an air pocket. It is a little tricky to reach and takes 2 people but is not that difficult.

Thank you for the advice. After calling and discussing with the dealership they are taking another look at it which I definitely appreciate them doing.

As an update, I have now been told that since the previous owner removed the clutch pedal spring they may not be able to cover this under warranty...
|
Clutch pedal spring has nothing to do with that issue...
Do you have another dealer nearby..?? |
Yeah, exactly what I'm thinking.

CSC seems pretty likely. My 240SX did the same thing you described; Turned out to be the slave. If the dealer ends up trying to give you the run around, either look for another dealer or just do it yourself. We've got good pricing on OEM parts, too by the way.

Thanks For the replies guys. I would never have even taken it in if it wasn't under warranty. I'm going to inspect for leaks when I get back and then flush and replace the fluid with some ate superblue if there are no leaks.

It can be the CSC and/or master cylinder. My CSC was replaced a year ago. When I got the clutch upgraded with an aftermarket CSC over a couple of weeks ago, the master cylinder failed and needed replacement. :shakes head:
I hate this 2-3" of travel before resistance feeling. |
this is such a shame for this car i own a 2010 7 thousound miles im not looking forward to this:mad:
ive just had my steering look fail leaving me stranded considering geting rid of my z if problems continue |
