Oil Change at 1200 miles after Break-in

I just took my Z to the dealer for an oil change at 1200 miles. So I wonder how many of you have actually done this. Is this better for the engine this way or doesn't it really matter?

I did check my dipstick last week and though the oil seemed relatively clean, I saw some grey stuff seeming to be metal debris/particles

Hi Man!! Congrats on your new Z!! I'm sure you will love it I know I do.

Yes, I changed my oil early as well. I believe it was at 1800kms. I went with Nissan Ester Oil for the first one. Then after 7000kms I went with redline. I too saw little gray shavings in the first change. Now with redline she seems to run a little cooler.

I currently have 14000kms on my baby, have had her for one year. No winter driving. She runs nice.

I should also mention that at 8500kms I also chnaged the tranny fluid and Diff fluid. Both are now redline. i will say i notice it's a lot smoother with shifting. Yet, I don't notice any difference with the diff. But I'm sure both are far better off then the factory fill stuff.

Thanks. Interesting stuff. I've read some mixed views on the board regarding the choice of oil. I did specify the dealer to user the Nissan ester oil for the first change. I've never tried any redline product even for my previous cars.

Lots of people on here are using redline, mostly good reviews. Do some search and decide. I did and i will never go back. If you decide to make a switch to any synthetic oil make sure you wait until your car is full broken in. Most people say this is between 8000 and 10000kms.

I went with Amsoil years ago myself and I won't ever go back... it's just great stuff IMO.

I've read different opinions on the 1200 mile oil change. Is this necessary? The Z comes with Synthetic oil off the lot (at least mine did) and the owner's manual recommends 3500 miles (if I remember correctly) for the first time.

yeah, the manual does state the first oil change comes at 3750 miles, and that's assuming you drive under "severe driving condition"

I don't think it matters. My first oil change was at about 3500. Going forward, I think if you're going to use that drain interval, it doesn't matter what oil you use. I found a good deal on Mobile 1, so I went that route.

Does anybody also experience the engine to run at lower temperature by using other specific brand of synthetic oil? Thanks
