Default Engine revving unnecessarily high/ S-mode malfunction

Lately, I've noticed whenever I accelerate hard, not necessarily flooring it but harder than usual, my RPM briefly spikes wildly before dropping and settling where it should be. When this happens in fifth or sixth gear it causes the S-mode to shut off and a message reading "Warning S-mode" appears on the dash. The S-mode will not turn back on until I shut off the engine and wait about five minutes before restarting it. Has anyone ever had this happen to them? Or does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Thanks

I don't think so this happens even without the involvement of the clutch.

Your car is under warranty - take it to a dealer.

You dont have to be doing anything with the clutch to make it slip, it just happens.

That's really disappointing. The car has less than 16,000 miles, but I suppose it's under warranty.

Well yes and no with the warranty. If it does end up being the clutch the dealer will argue its a wearing part that can wear out faster if driven incorrectly (not saying thats what you did) There is a few things you can do to see if its the clutch going. Drive around in like 6th gear going like 40 50 mph. Hit the gas more then normal, you dont have to floor it and see what happens, if the RPM's start to raise and your not moving there your clutch is going. Also try going up a hill in a higher then normal gear. Good luck with what ever happens and look at it this way, god forbib it is your clutch its an excuse to get a better clutch and light weight flywheel.
