Default Really Bad Experience At The Stealership

So Friday night I picked up a screw in my right front tire. Saturday morning I called up my local Nissan dealership and asked if they had time to patch my tire. Dealer told me to bring it in, would take about 1.5 hours to repair.

So against my better judgment I chose the dealership because I figure they have the proper equipment to do the job properly. Also, I have nitrogen filled tires and figured I would have them refill with nitrogen.

Well... I should have stuck to my better judgment. When I picked up the car, I give it a once over. The first thing I notice is that the wheel on the side they repaired has paint chips and dings all around the lip of the wheel and the lug sockets are scraped up.

At this point Im calm, but pissed. I mean the car is not a $120,000 Ferrari, but is my baby. When I dropped it off the car was spotless with 2017mi on it, I would expect that when i pick it up its in the same condition.

So I grab the service rep and show him the damage, He acknowledges that there is indeed damage but advises me that there is no way to service a low profile tire without causing a little damage. I called bull $h!t as my Evo and WRX both had low pro and not once did I have this issue.

We then proceed to look over the rest of the car. When we make it to the driver side front he points out "a scuff" on the wheel. When I took a look almost half the wheel had curb rash down to the bare metal. At this point I’m going to blow up, but it’s not reps fault so I do my best to stay calm.

The rep tells me that he will have to have his manager look at it on Monday, but sad that most likely they will give me a discount to have the wheels refinished. Obviously this doesn’t work for me as I’m not putting a dime into fixing the problem they caused. Also when I picked up the car, it has 7 extra miles on it, so I can only imagine what happened there.

So I’m wondering what you guys think about the situation and how I should approach it. Obviously I don’t want them to touch the car as I feel they are just going to mess it up more. What would be a fair resolution?

I would certainly appreciate any reasonable suggestions.

Never leave the vehicle alone with the service department.... I bring a sleeping bag just in case.

If none of the damage was there before stick it out and make them replace anything they damaged. Thats total BS don't let them get away with it.

Really? How did Nissan mount them in the first place without causing a little damage?

Nissan needs to start stepping-up their game and taking responsibly for the dealerships it chooses versus giving the uninitiated customer the finger pointing game and vice-a-versa. Nissan dealerships are legally agents of Nissan. Call Nissan Customer Service; file a complaint; wait for follow-up; don't take Nissan telling you there is nothing they can do about it because it's the dealerships fault.

I always thought that that dealership mechanics were rejects from other shops.

Thanks for the reply’s guys.

I have a meeting with the service manager at 11:00 today. I’m going to demand that they replace(not refinish) the wheels, and have them pay to have the dent and the chips of paint missing from the fender professionally repaired.

I guess if they will not meet the demands, then I will take it up with Nissan America.

By the way, this was Nissan of Delray Beach. But before I say that they are a bad service center or anything of that nature, We will se how they handle the situation.

My dealership damaged my wheels when changing them from summers to winters when I bought the car too. They were great about it and paid to have the wheels professionally redone. The results were flawless. Great service and no hassles at all.
It cost them though... my rep said it was almost $1700 for refinishing the wheels and painting them hyper silver again! Yikes! They learned a lesson.

I still don't see how this happens. When you have nice wheels reguadless if there stock, all the shops I've been to cover the machine in towels to prevent this.

So I stopped by the dealership today to have the service manager take a look over the car. It took about 30sec and he began to appoligise up and down for the condition that they returned the car to me.

Basicly, They are going to send the wheels out to be refinnished. I told them that I didnt want to leave the car there so they agreed to give me two spare tires to put on the car untill the wheels are finnished. The spares dont bother me as I will just keep it in my garage untill its all done.

As for the dings in the fender, I told them I dont really want them to touch it as they will never be able to match the factory color. I guess I will have to figure out later.

Overall, they seem to be doing what they can to make it better. I'm pretty sure that there is an oppening in there service department after this event.

I'm glad you got it sorted out man. I can't help but notice a few dings on my wheels and wonder if they are dealer related.....
