climate control issue...

Hi there! I am new to this forum and new to my 40th anniversary 370, which I,so far, absolutely love. I am having one issue though...
Although, under warranty, i do live 40 miles from the nearest dealer and thought I would inquire here first. My problem: with climate control on automatic and the temp set at 60, if you move just one notch warmer, the fan begins to blow on high with surface of the sun hot air. This cannot be right. I did find one other post where the owner wtih same issue found the cabin temp sensing
device loose or unplugged and when secured the problem went away.
Does anyone know where this device is located and or have any other thoughts?
Thanks much!

Found it...

Found where the sensor is in the online owners manual here. I guess I missed it in mine...anyway, the sensor was totally unplugged, and once plugged in everything works perfectly. It would have su... To go 80 miles round trip to the dealer for this....very happy now...

Zittle,
I have a similar problem, can you post any more information about how/where you found and fixed the sensor ?

Jim.

Page 4-22 in the manual says there is a sensor slightly below left of the start button on the under steering wheel panel.

Thanks wilsonp I know there is a sensor there behind the fascia. I need to know if zittle fixed that sensor or annother, and the procedure he used.

The sensor under the steering wheel panel is not readily accessible or visible. It is not clear how I would check it for disconnection.

Here is the sensor your talking about, i think. There is one wire connection and a tube connection. Make sure both are connected properly.

My climate control issue which the deaaler claims is normal.......
With the oat at 55-60'F I have to turn the AC on or I get hot air. I really prefer the AC off and just enjoy the aambient air temp but can't do it here. Bloody strange. It's not a deal breaker but it is a p@ss*ff.

Jim365 10-26-2011 08:52 AM

Hi kayess thank you for the puctures. I will now recognise the sensor when I see it. Do you know of a procedure for getting to this sensor ? Do I start by removing the fascia, or what ? And how is that done ?

In the original thread, zittle spoke of fixing the sensor as if it was an easy operation.

The panel under the steering wheel should be the only one you need to take off if i recall correctly, its actually quiet simple once you get under and take a look at it. I want to say you may not even need to take anything off and you can see if from the bottom, but to get in that angle may be tricky. Here is a visual of the sensor:

Thank you kayess. I will have a close look at that panel and see if it can be removed easily and without messing up my warranty.

Below are some test results. On each day, the cabin temp was measured with 2 thermometers after the car had been driven for 11 miles. All temps are in Celsius and the system was set to AUTO with A/C off.

There is little relationship between what you set the temperature to and the actual temperatuire achieved. 26 degrees C would be uncomfortably hot, but the car barely gets to acceptable room temperature.

The whole system works - the hot air, the vents and blower fan - I see them all changing. But the car always settles at a temperature far below the thermostat setting. It is a bit of a joke.

Code:

Date        Outside Temp        Set Temp        Actual Cabin Temp after 11 miles
17/10/11        14                25        20.5
18/10/11        7                25        19
18/10/11        9                21.5        19
21/10/11        8                26        17
21/10/11        12                26        21
24/10/11        12                26        21
25/10/11        10                22        19, raining
28/10/11        6                26        18

Can you try switching to circulated airflow and test it out?

Jim365 10-29-2011 11:56 AM

The recirculation was left on automatic (and the auto mode put it on FRESH AIR). I could try it with recirculation forced on on, ie. not taking air from outside. Wouldn't that just make the car stuffy ?

I think this is happening to me

I think this is what is happening to my Z right now. Is it something I can easily fix or should I wait for the dealer to do it.

Is there a wire that connects to part 27054M?

The hose is not connected to anything and there feels like a wire with a plug is loose up there. I think they forgot to replace that part when they reassembled my car today.

Yes. I had the same exact symptoms as the OP and finally got around to fixing it today. It turns out the unplugged wire was zip tied way up under the dash. I can only assume that the previous owner removed while installing stereo/NAV and didn't know what it was for when putting everything back together. Either that or they took it to a crappy shop to install the HU.

Just be aware that it may not be visible and dangling right next to the plug if it is in fact disconnected. Someone moron may have tucked it out of the way!
