So what was the cause? A right CV joint? I think I'm beginning to get a similar problem. If i'm off throttle coasting and then get on the gas i get a faint clunk sound as soon as i push the throttle in. It sounds like metal on metal contact, as if there is excessive slack somewhere in the diff or axles, and revving the engine takes up that slack, but causes a clunk when the metal parts first collide.

I have something similar on a 2010roadster with 2000 miles on it. Been there since day one.
