This poll is to learn and hopefully explain Nissan's Extended Warranty and is a result of this Extended Warranty thread, by TacoZ. Nissan offers several extended
warranties. The most extensive being the Security+Plus. You have to sixty (60) days in which to cancel your warranty agreement and receive a full refund. If you have financed the amount then your finance company will receive the credit, and you will reduce your loan by said amount; if you paid out-of-pocket, then you will receive the refund. To cancel your warranty the quickest way is to go to a Nissan dealer and have them verify the odometer reading as (an odometer statement is mandatory), and have them process the refund. You have until the end—not one day or mile after—until the factory warranty ends (3-years/36000-miles) to purchase a Nissan Extended Warranty. In listing how much you paid it is important to reference the correct warranty. Thank you. You can purchase the right Security+Plus plan for you from Nissan Extended Warranty DOT COM at any time within the first 3 years or 36,000 miles of your vehicle's original in-service date. However, you will get the most out of Security+Plus by selecting a plan early. All Security+Plus plans offer transferable coverage, your choice of deductible and flexible financing options. A brief summary of each plan appears below. Security+Plus Gold Preferred Security+Plus Gold Security+Plus Silver Preferred Security+Plus Silver Security+Plus Bronze Security+Plus Gold Preferred Covers over 1,950 components 24-hour roadside assistance, trip-interruption benefits and 17 different time and mileage options, plus all the coverage of Security+Plus Gold Covers over 1,800 components Designed for owners of accessorized new Nissans, since it covers many electronic items found on 'luxury' or 'high-tech' models 9 different time and mileage options Towing and car rental reimbursement Security+Plus Silver Preferred Covers over 1,350 components 24-hour roadside assistance and trip-interruption benefits, plus all the coverage of Security+Plus Silver listed below Security+Plus Silver Covers over 1,200 components Designed for owners of accessorized new Nissans, since it covers many electronic items found on 'luxury' or 'high-tech' models 6 time and mileage options Towing and car rental reimbursement Security+Plus Bronze Covers over 780 components 6 time and mileage options

Awesome! This is the kind of information I was looking for. I was really debating on it but let me read through all of this and then decide. I will end up buying it before the 3 year warranty ends.

Regardless of how long you intend to keep your car and/or whether you intend to mod it (and void the warranty anyway); never, never, never buy an extended warranty.
Keep in mind that the insurance company (and that's all it is) is in business to make a profit and the only way it can make a profit is to charge enough in fees to cover all their potential exposure and then some plus these plans are a HUGE profit center for the dealer (and that profit has to be covered as well). You will be far, far better off to take whatever money you would spend on an extended warranty and put it in the bank...better yet, have a real emergency fund so that paying for vehicle repairs when they happen aren't a big deal.

On my 2009 Maxima which got totaled in a flood, I had the best most expensive warranty... The car had a K&N exhaust, cat delete Y-pipe and A different exhaust... During the course of 11 months that I owned the car it went through $11,000 of repairs, YES ELEVEN THOUSAND, you read that correctly... Every time I heard something, or felt something, I took it in, I used and abused the warranty to keep my car at tip top shape... Had the seat base replaced twice which cost several thousand each time, 3 struts were changed, engine mount, 3 window motors and regulators, and a few other things that I can't remember off the top of my head...
I know a guy at corporate, and he said mods like intake and exhaust are 100% ok, any mod is ok until something breaks... And then, ONLY then can they start blaming your mods, they can for instance blame a transmission failure because you changed your intake, now, your MAF's... If they die, yeah, you're SOL, or if your engine blows up they can ONLY blame the intake and exhaust if it was clogged or if a bolt from the intake was sucked into the manifold or something Lastly, I bought my used Z a few days ago with the "wrap warranty which covers the WHOLE car to 7 years 100,000 miles for $1942, a dollar over invoice, ANY dealershit can sell it to you for that price, but ONLY when you purchase it ON that day... And I got the bronze service care kit which essentially covers the synthetic oil changes to 7 years 105,000 miles for $742 Quote:

What do you mean by having the seat base replaced?

You can buy the Nissan Extended warranty any time in the first 3 years of ownership on a new car. Also you really didn't get that great of a deal on your warranty. That may be $1 over THAT dealerships invoice but if thats true then other dealerships have lower invoices. See Santa Rosa's warranty pricing. I think you could have saved a few hundred dollars but you don't indicate if you bought the 0 or $50 deductable.

All the metalwork of the seat and the physical seat cushion on the driver's seat including the seat heaters and all that good stuff.
I had a $0 deductible, also, from my understanding, yes you CAN buy it within the first 3 years, BUT you cannot buy it with the $0 deductible, and you pay a premium because the car hasn't been recertified... Quote:

I had a $50 dollar deductible. Since the warranty could be used at any dealer or shop. My friend who owned the shop would do all the repairs. He would replace the parts with high performance parts. Need new trans got a racing trans, clutch racing, turbo big 16g turbo.. At no extra or if the part was a little more then I cover that cost no extra labor. That is the bomb! I know everything for the z is expensive so I am happy to have the warranty and will be happier if I find out my friends shop can work on it. LOL! |
