Replacing Interior Door Panels

OK so I have been in contact with my dealership about my warranty for my interior protection. In the end I will be getting the interior door panels replaced from the suede to leather in the same red! Basically what has happened is it had been raining hard a couple times, so I complained on how stupid it was to put suede on such a vulnerable spot! Then before I knew it, we were going over my warranties and I was told I COULD GET IT CHANGED TO LEATHER! O YA:happydance::driving::happydance:

I was wondering if any 40th owners have done this yet, or if they would want to do this??

I know Katzkin has a replacement, I wanted to know if anyone in Cali that owns a 40th would be interested in going to their office to get a match done color wise and or getting their doors done!

They have offered to get it done at a local interior guy but I said I didn't want him to do it so they said I can go where ever I want. So I am thinking Katzkin and they have a supplier/installer located in my area (kinda sorta couple hours away but hey it's worth it!)

So did it actually stain? Do you have pictures?

(it's not really suede)

Sorry can't help you, just interested...

The "leather" inserts you're thinking of getting won't be REAL leather either. I had a custom Katzkin leather interior for my old 97 Pathfinder, and the inserts were not leather. Check out current vehicles with leather...the seating surfaces are leather, but the sides of the cushions aren't. That's common practice. Helps to keep costs down. So please clarify with the manufacturer on what parts are real or fake leather before you buy.

Xan - no they are not "stained", it's more dis-coloured. It looks like the material was deteriorating from the rain........ hope that helps! I am trying to go see my car in storage ASAP and I will post the pics once I get them! Do you know what the material is called they used on our door panels though, since it's not true suede I guess???

djpathfinder - thanks for the tip on looking into what the panels insert is made out of first! I will be happy probably either way going with leather or a pleather material as long as it looks like the red leather in our seats! But since it is being done for free I will definitely make sure they use good stuff. It is just a PITA cause I get to choose where it goes to be done, but I don't like the shop they regularly use. So now I have to do a little shopping around for shops here in Ontario.

It's mostly known by the tradename Alcantara or faux suede. It's basically polyester and polyurethane. I'm surprised some water would discolor it, acid rain up there?

LMBmikeZ 12-11-2010 01:06 PM

no no acid rain, and I wouldn't say it is really bad just bad for being a NEW car, and the service manager 100% agreed with me so I will be taking full advantage of this ASAP!

I mean I might as well.......lol it's going to be free!

True, I just think I like the suede look better and thought it was pretty stain resistant.
Guess I'll add some 303 protectant on it...

By any chance you've keep the fabric?
