Why would anyone want to go and have this issue fixed? It seems to me that the top segment on the fuel gauge is the least important part of the thing. Now, if the bottom segment didn't work.... THAT would be an issue.

wow! A colossal waste of time and effort!

Although top segment may be failing and not a cause a concern for you, it well would be a symptom of a bigger problem i.e. fuel sensor, relay,etc.. which could cause the entire display to not work correctly causing a much larger problem, hence, better to get it checked out and not a colossal waste of time and effort.

I don't think so. The sender has a levered electrical motion. If there was an issue, it would be the whole distance. Not just one segment on the dash gauge. Again, not an issue you should be concerned with, IMHO.

And... it's ridiculous to have a brand new car with this issue.

Also, if it's still under warranty, why not?

I only didn't go before becuse I thought the problem was fuel additive related -- now I'm not so sure.

It will be off by one after a fill-up, and then correct itself next day

damn, seems like nissan just can't source a decent FSU (fuel sending unit). Our xterra has had it's FSU replaced once already under warrantee and apparantly it's a huge issue for the X's, Frontiers, Pathfinders. Didn't think it'd be an issue with the Z's too.

Knock on wood, so far no problems with our Z.

Thanks for the update. I'm curious to see what the dealership finds the second time around. I just filled up and the last 2 LEDs didn't light up...the next morning...the last LED didn't light up...

I started having the fuel gauge issue with the last, and sometimes second last LED, not lighting up at ~18k miles using mainly 76 gas.

The last LED usually lit back up itself ~24 hours after filling up.

After using Chevron, the last LED usually lights back up ~12 hours after filling up...

...so maybe using Chevron gas and/or their fuel cleaner will help resolve the issue...

My dealer has ordered a new sender unit. However, I'm not certain I want go ahead with it. Often with dealers they can do more damage than good.

I have this issue every once in a while where the last dot in the fuel gauge doesn't light up after filling the car up. If it does happen it's only for the trip from the gas station to where I live, which is pretty much just across the street. The next time I start the car, it's always fine and the light comes on for all the dots.
