Did they explain why their maintenance schedule shows 3 or 6 month intervals depending on how the car is driven?

It would be interesting to see if they would refuse to honor warranty work based on following schedule 2. Every three months is a waste if you're not even hitting 3k in that period.

I didn't even get into that with her. Since the manual says, "Generally, Schedule 2 applies only to highway driving in temperate conditions" there would have been little point in me bringing it up. About 10% of my driving is on the highway and I can't argue that it's temperate here in Phoenix. My previous car was a Mazda Speed3 and perhaps all the horror stories of Mazda denying warranty claims have made me paranoid, but I'd rather have 3 or 4 extra oil changes than to take a chance on how things would turn out if I end up with a serious problem during the warranty period.

Well the use of the word "generally" and the following clause:

"Use Schedule 2 only if you primarily operate
your vehicle under conditions other than
those listed in Schedule 1."

suggest a bit of vagueness in their definition of schedule 2 driving

As I mentioned before they is a wide range of driving between "primarily highway" and the strenuous conditions they list for schedule 1. They leave it a bit vague so they can have some wiggle room if they find some driver hammering the car and bringing it in every six months.

Anyway, do what you think best based on your driving habits, but don't let some lackey @ Nissan customer service determine your service schedule for you.
