The dealers are the dishonest individuals. Most dealers (and by extension their employees) are crooks from what I can tell. Corporate isn't quite as bad.

Ok, I'm the odd one in this bunch about dealerships, maybe it's from the fact that the dealership I have been going to for the past 5 years, has taken care of my Z, under Nissan gold preferred maintenance plan, that ran out in January this year. Have not experienced any problems, always did what was required, didn't try to sell an extra services. It just worked. Also I have been working with the same Service Rep, the entire time.

They even installed my Zspeed clutch kit that I purchased, and I haven't had any problems.

guess I'm a little odd..

I'm glad you found one of the honest and competent dealerships. From my experience, they are few and far between. I couldn't find a decent Nissan shop within a two hours drive of my house.

It’s time for the “dealership” business model to go. They’re nothing but dishonest leeches that time has passed over.

It’s the only business I can think off that is legally forced to use a middleman to sell its products.

My last 5 new car purchases have been over the internet. From research, to pricing, to financing, to delivery. Never put a foot in a “dealers” door and I never will again.

FYI: "Dealership said" is synonymous with "Dealership lied".

Default Dealership putting oil in not in service manual here.

I just got my 2019 370z in July of 2020 and went to the dealership for an oil change before I put it into storage for the winter.

When I saw the invoice with 0W-20 I started investigating... 5W-30 is recommended but Nissan moved a bunch of their cars to 0W-20 to meet efficiency standards. The 370z as far as I have seen did not change and the engine was engineered to take 5W-30.

Engineering Explained did a good video on these more popular thinner 20 weight oils (0W is the cold weight and the second number is the hot viscosity) - I should show the dealership it XD... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKdh...eringExplained

I am now awaiting an email back from both Nissans info email and the service manager from the dealership to confirm of the correct oil to be using.

On Nissans website it still shows 5W-30 should be used.

Fingers crossed the dealership will offer something to switch to 5W-30...

On my 2020 Z, it states right on the underhood tag at the bottom, 5w-30. I wouldn't use anything else.
(I tried to share a pic of it but no dice)

From what I understand, most Nissan dealers no longer carry 5W30 oil in bulk. Some do not even have it in 1 litre bottles any more. They do not give a crap about what is required, they just use what they have readily available and is cost effective for them. They just assume that Z owners don’t know any better. This happens all the time. I’ll bet that over 90% of 370Z’s serviced at the dealer get 0W20 oil changes. It’s a disgrace. It’s one of the main reasons I do my own oil changes.
