ECU Update
Hey everyone,
New member, brief intro, bought my 2014 z in November. Absolutely love my car. So I left the parking lot from work, up to 2nd and something felt weird right away, pressed the gas peddle a little and felt like I was in 4th gear at 30kmh as opposed to 2nd. Was like this the entire way to the dealership (cars under warranty or id be freaking out). No alerts coming up anywhere. They do a scan and tell me there's an ECU update that just came in from Nissan. I asked for more detail and they said it was just a software update, happens every few years. Pulled out the dealership and hammered down just to be sure and away we went. Just wanted to know if anyone has experienced this before. Thanks https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...4125844d58.jpg Sent from my SM-G920W8 using Tapatalk |

I have a 6mt and it happened to me last week, I have a cold air intake and the Mass Airflow sensors were dirty, cleaned them and now I'm a rocket again...:driving:, this summer I will clean the throttle body just as maintenance

Yeah sounds fishy I have a 2009 and never had Nissan do an ECU update.

never go to the dealership unless it's 100% unavoidable like when i went for the steering lock recall.
 |
If its under warranty I understand going to a dealership, but if its not its a giant waste of time and the answer is already on this forum most likely. I went in just to get a new cabin air filter put in since its pollen season and they took it upon them selves to run a scan on the car and come back and try to sell me a new ECU, they told me mine was bad because I have a CEL due to running test pipes.

ECU update? :gtfo2:
They are called Stealerships and Dealershits for a reason :twocents: |
Hi Moe87. Can you please advise which stealershit you visited for the 'ECU update'?
I want to make certain that we here in ON are aware of the antagonists in question. |

I'm only going to the dealership for oil changes because I got 24000 km free at time of sale so why not. After that I'll do my own. Sent from my SM-G920W8 using Tapatalk |

I think that if Nissan had an ecu update that would eliminate problems such as you experienced they would advise owners of the affected vehicles via mail much like a recall since loss of power can be dangerous. Dealer story sounds fishy. Thanks for the name. Being in Whitby I would never go there unless traveling and had an emergency. If you ever get the paperwork maybe check with Nissan Canada. ..could be a scam. Hope your car runs better.

For the most part, ECM updates are not absolutely necessary - they usually make very minor corrections. If it is an important update (eg, loss-of-power fix), you will usually be notified (see stansens remark above). But you may have one of the offbeat problems that an update could fix (IMNSHO, not likely). There are several web sites that will allow you to search recalls and TSBs. If a web search doesn't give any good answers, I suggest taking the car to another dealer and get them to run diagnostics.
