Oil Temperature Gauge is Incorrect

Hi everyone, i am having trouble with my oil temperature gauge showing incorrect values. There are times where the gauge is spiked at max temp and some other times it's even off the scale. I don't believe this to be an actual issue of high oil temp because my gaUge doesnt always reset and my car hasn't exploded. I don't believe it to he be a Temperature senor issue either because of the following.

On startup, my gauge doesn't run through the typical startup sweep like the other gauges. Also when shutting down the engine, the needle doesnt always return to zero. When it doesnt return to zero and i do a cold start, oil temps will generally show an increase of the normal 180-220, from where i started.

So i believe my issue to be in the stepper motor of the gauge not being controlled properly. Has anyone had this issue before and is there a remedy or do i need to replace the gauge? (I tried cutting the battey, but it doesnt work)

Thanks for the assistance!!

def sounds like the gauge itself if all the other ones are working correctly. Sad part is it is going to be a huge pain to fix as those gauges are not the easiest to remove and replace...hope it isnt anything else but havent had this problem before

Thanks for the feedback!! You have to buy the assembly with all three, right? Can't just replace the one?

Last I heard it was that way. Check out Courtesy Parts or another online Nissan parts store.
