If I were you is go out and start it everyday until it fails. Might as well get it fixed while you're not using it

you dont have to even start the engine. just hit starter button once and you will hear the steering-lock motor winding noise. then 2 more push (Off) you will hear the steering lock again.

but each cycle activates the fuel pump, etc. so not sure if you want to keep doing that.

Did anyone else receive an email from Nissan Consumer Affairs for a customer satisfaction survey?

This is how I responded:

I am still dissatisfied with Nissan's reluctance to address the issue with REV A, B and C steering wheel lock failures in the 2009 and early 2010 370z. this exact same part was recalled in the GTR for failures and many people are currently experiencing problems with the part failing at great inconvenience to the consumer. On the forums online that I frequent every day there are new complaints about their steering wheel locks failing. I hope that Nissan decides to address this issue in the very near future.

Yeah, I was just going to let it run its course. I'll know exactly what's going on when it happens. I have CAA (AAA) so a tow will be looked after. Not too worried, crap happens. lol

I was expecting Nissan to have done something about this issue by the time I pulled my car out of storage though.

Good response. We can't let Nissan off the hook for the way they are handling this known problem.

I've had nothing but trouble with my Z. I'm about fed up. It's on its third tranny, took it in three times to get a rattle fixed, trunk latch sticks every time I open it, it runs out of gas when it still has 60 miles of range reading on the display, and now I'm left stranded at radio shack in -4 degree windshield because it won't start. The key light is on and not even acc turns on. Looks like a bunch of people are having this problem and from what I've been reading I'll probably have to have it towed...for the third time since I've owned it.
If there was just another car out there that was as good looking and fast and as cheap as this one...
Very dissatisfied...

Have to sacrifice and get a Mustang - it will be fast, anyway

Disappointed Nissan doesn't have a recall for the same part on every model - they know they have a problem.

I had it towed over Saturday morning so two days ago and it is now after 2pm on a Monday and I haven't even gotten a call to give me the diagnosis.

And trust me I've seriously considered a Boss 302. I just can't justify the fact that it looks anti-modern and that every 1 out of 5 cars I see a day is a mustang. I like to stand out from the crowd and the Z definitely does great at that...I just wish it was reliable too...

just had mine towed this morning. was rushing to work for a phone conf.
ended up having a phone conf. w/ the nissan road side assistant and the dealer as well.

i'm pretty worried now, not sure if my car is still under warranty on this (09', 5800miles on only). the dude from nissan said that it will be covered, but the dealer said not sure til the car is examined.

it's been like 10 hours now and still no update from the dealer. sigh.

This one got me early this morning. As another poster had happen, I was dropping my step-daughter off at school. Came back out to start the car up, and no go.

I have noticed over the last several weeks (or more) the steering lock solenoid sounded more and more lethargic. In the beginning, it was quick... lately, it was obviously taking longer and longer to pull back the pin. Slower, lower-frequency growl when the pin retracted.

Anyway, it's at the dealership now getting looked at, and I let them know to check out the IPDM and steering column solenoid unit first.

Mine is a January 2010 roadster with around 4k past the warranty period. I'm hoping Nissan steps up on this one and covers the bill.

I had my top replaced just a few weeks ago... seems Nissan didn't do as good a job at cleaning off the flashing on the metals bars as they should have. After two years of putting the top up/down, the flashing slowly wore holes in either side of the top. It's a bit of a pain, but as long as they're willing to step up and fix it on their tab, I really can't complain.

My car has just recently came across this problem and now does not start...I bought a new car for he reason to avoid any issues with taking it to a mechanic. Right now just waiting on a tow and see what the quote will be for this in Germany.

Mine is an '09 with 18K miles...too soon to be breaking.

lol Thanks. I have looked at the DIY and I finally got an English Speaking German on the line to tell me the issue (which I already know) and he went on to tell me that it's going to be 2300 Euro to fix and I told him that it's still under warranty and he said it works differently in Germany. I told him not to touch it until it actually clears that I won't pay anything. If not, then I'll just order the part myself and fix it with a friend of mine.
