Hope this isn't a stupid question. I am often parallel parked on the street when I visit my girlfriend. If I had this issue, how could I get my car towed? Mine is a stick so I could put it in neutral, but if the steering is locked how can you get it out of the parking spot? I've seen people towed when parked illegally and they just kind of drag the car out into the street. Hate to think of that happening to my car. Besides, it is so low I don't think they could get the lift under it.

Yes I have seen them drag cars out, it seems to be the standard procedure for parking violations, they don't care because you parked in the wrong spot and it's the owners fault.

However I have had my car moved in a parking lot at work because they needed to do some emergency repairs and my car was in the way. I was totally weired out because the car wasn't were I left it and I asked how the heck did they move it when it was in gear and had the parking brake engaged (it was a fwd car). They showed me the rollers they have to move peoples cars if they need to. They just lift up the car up a few inches place rollers under the wheels and slowly move it.

I saw in a few posts up that a rev E failed. Does anyone know if Nissan actually fixed the problem or a just replacing the part & it could happen again? GM did something like this on the C-5 vettes. They even had a recall, but it only solved the column lock problem on the auto, not the manual. I'm thinking that the bypass harness I saw in another thread may be worthwhile still.
I have a 2010 with Rev E. Just installed my bypass kit. Do it! Dont even hesitate. I thought about pulling the fuse. Bypass kit is easier and you have zero risk to a very expensive electrical system in case you mess up pulling the fuse.
Either method is good. Kit was better for me. I didnt feel like mine would fail as the 09's are severely affected by this. Worth the money for peace of mind!

thanks bro. (UPDATE). I'm sad to inform that the dealer is not helping me out. I disputed that this problem was recalled on the GTR and the number of cases regarding the 09 and 10 370z keep rising, but they just gave me the finger and are asking for 1300 to fix it. I called nissan customer relations and filed a case and today I got a nice phone call also giving me the finger saying I'm on my own. I have no choice but to get it fixed, but I feel like this is some BS. My car is getting fixed and should be done friday.

Just keep all the paper work And all the receipt buddy. Soon or later this problem will be recall too. So u don't have to arguments with them when asking for refund. It's sucks man. Even the z is just 1/3 or 1/2 price of the gtr we deserve to treat same service. Just unacceptable. Sorry to hear that buddy

Yes sir. Parked the z for a whole week because went out of town. When get back warm the z for around 10 mins then the next day nothing working. The key fob doesn't work have to used the manual key to unlock the z. I was thinking the battery was bad. So grab the battery to autozone, orelly, and advance auto parts. They all said the battery was good. Then get back here on forum try to search around. Found this thread. Then I called my dealer and they tow my car for free because still under warranty. Then after diagnose. They found out the steering lock mechasm was bad and the body control module was bad too. They replaced both parts now working good. The service adviser said. A lot of z and altima had same problem. That's y thats the first thing get in there head when they see z or altima failed like mine. Then after 3 days got my car back. (They also recall the navigation software) then bring the car back in next day to ask them fix the fuel LEDs that won't go full even u just filled it full tank of gasoline. So far no more issue. They fix all of it. Because I'm running out of warranty too. Just want to search around the forum what else need to be done. Big thanks to the370z.com!!

P.s they also said they can't understand why nissan still not recall this issues on our z and altima. But they believe a lot of customer already files the case of steering lock. They believe soon or later this will be recall for the z too. That's what I heard from my service adviser at mossy Nissan. (Houston, Texas on I-10/Katy fwy)

Found this forum when researching a similar problem with my car - a 2011 Infiniti G37xS AT with 19,130 miles. Tow truck just dropped her off at the dealer. I pointed them in the direction of the steering lock (thanks, guys). Will report back on what they come up with.

More details if you're interested:

Pulled into my driveway, pushed the button, engine shut off. Yellow KEY light on solid. Doors would not unlock using switches or FOB (I had to manually flip the door lock to get out). NAV display and Bluetooth stayed on. Brake very hard to push. No start, no ACC, no nothing. Exterior trunk release button would not work. Interior trunk release button worked fine.

Also, my car is beeping 3 times after I lock the car with the remote. I hope my battery does not die

This blows!
I had my car towed to Fremont Nissan and after a day, they said they will charge me $1300 for the part and labor. They said my extended warranty did not cover this part. I was very upset. I called Dublin Nissan, where I bought the car. They looked through my paperwork and saw that I also got a "Portfolio Coverage", which covered the part and labor of the steering wheel lock.

I called Fremont Nissan and told them about my other coverage. They said they cannot honor it because of their "policy". I got so angry and cussed them out. I called Dublin Nissan back and they said they can do everything for just the cost of my deductible ($50). I had my car towed there and it took an extra three days for it to be totally fixed.

I'm very happy to have only paid $50, but I was almost ready to pay Fremont Nissan $1300 to repair my car.
