Major Oil Leak..
Hello all, I have a 2014 370z 6mt. I have been the only owner and it has about ~38,000 miles. I get my oil changed ONLY at the Nissan dealership that I purchased the car from. This past monday (4/18/2016), I had gotten my oil changed. Today (4/22/2016), I noticed on my way home from Grad. School, I realized there was white and gray smoke coming out of my car from all directions and the smoke was even coming into my cabin. Pulled over to the side ASAP and noticed a oil leak. In matters of minutes all of my oil leaked. I did speed or hit any weird objects. Just got my car towed to the dealership. I kept all the receipts of my maintenance... My car had laggy throttle response and was shaking moderately, temperature gauges were in the 300+, usually 180-220 I am from New Orleans and it gets hot. Is my engine done for?? Is this the dealerships fault? I used to do oil changes for my honda civic and I have a feeling the worker may not have bolted on the drain bolt hard enough or maybe overtorqued it and stripped.. I am confused, has anyone else ever gone through this?

It's hard to say. Did you see where the oil came out of? Sounds like a sloppy oil job. If you have maint records done from that dealer sounds like you should be taken care of and reimbursed for your loss and expenses. I hope you put little miles on after the last oil change so that way you have more of a case in pointing fingers at the dealer. Best of luck.

Doesn't matter, either your warranty will cover it or the dealer will. I wouldn't let them put your car on a rack without you being there or being able to see exactly what's going on. You don't want them to touch anything to say it's your fault. Record everything on your phone. Conversations, video, etc

^ They Will try every reason to flip it on you. I would be ready to raise hell. Call corporate and file a complaint about the shitty oil job just to get your case started in the right direction. Also if you haven't already, get under your car and take photos of the underside to document everything.

Double gasketed?? Or they forgot to fill it with oil to begin with.

Sounds a lot like the time about 20 years ago when my Infiniti dealer didn't tighten my oil filter. Except I seemed to catch it before any real damage was done.

I recently had tires put on. Paid for a tpms rebuild for all 4. Noticed tech didn't do it to the first wheel. Called him out on it. He 'forgot' I bought the rebuild service. Had to break the bead on the tire to get at the tpms. On the ball with the other 3.

thanks everyone, I actually had a lot of oil coming out of my car.. and the manger at service depart said he would get back to me this upcoming monday.
|
sorry to hear. another reason why i dont let dealers touch my cars once i leave the dealership after the sale.
why it takes them till monday to take the lower shroud off to verify, icing on their BS. |
They need time the come up with bs excuses. Like I said file a case with corporate and provide them with as many evidence and photos you documented. It will probably take them days if not a couple weeks to get back to you but at least you get a jump start on the dealer. Call me crazy but in a situation like this where I know the dealer ****** up and will likely try to dodge responsibilities, I will be more proactive and not give them an opportunity to bull **** to my face.

im guessing he pulled the oil filter, didn't notice that the old rubber gasket was still attached to car, put new one on and it will leak, as the one poster said, double gasketed it.

Some dealers are real asshol3s. Call corporate. Nissan is notorious for blaming the customer unfortunately. Take pics and videos of the damage if you can. Good luck and keep us posted.

They will rule out not changing the oil and filter as the issue because they just performed the service. If they perform all routine and scheduled maintenance, you will be fine. Do you have engine mods? If you have engine mods that your dealership can show caused the issue, you will be SOL. Only raise hell when necessary. Right now, they have not done anything to to deny the warranty claim.

Thanks guys, I went ahead and emailed NISAN USA about my situation. The head mechanic at the dealership I went to called me and said that the crush washer on the drain bolt broke and mightve been because the mechanic working on my car tighted it too much or so. They ran diagnostics test, gave me new oil filter, etc. I asked them to log it in the history of the car that this fuk up happened and that if there were any problems in the future related to this then it'd be on them. They agreed to it on paperwork and we both left. Car seems to drive fine for now.
