I wouldn't be concered with damage to the engine unless the oil pressure warning light came on. I assume there is a warning light and chime for that. The oil level would have to be almost completely drained for that to happen.

That's relative. Few folks over on the G site had the timing cover gasket failure. By their accounts, by the time the warning light came on, engine was toast.

they giving u a new oil filter also sounds fishy... why would they give u a new filter for a plug problem? sounds like they didnt tighten the filter enough and sprung a leak, or the oil pan got stripped, or just forgot to torque the plug. |

Go out and drive it hard now while their work is fresh. If something got screwed up it will show itself quickly.

Let's hope there is was no damage done before they replaced the drain plug and oil filter. I am concerned by your statement, " My car had laggy throttle response and was shaking moderately, temperature gauges were in the 300+, usually 180-220". How many miles away from the dealer did you drive before having it towed? Just curious.
I would keep an eye on everything for the foreseeable future. Hopefully nothing happened internally and that there was no damage done to the rings or bearings. I would even get the oil changed again in a few hundred miles (at another place or do it yourself) to see how clean the oil is. Check for any metal shavings or other particles. If clean, then you should be OK. Anything less than clean oil, I'd be back at the dealers asking them what are they going to do about it...

I don't see how that crush washer would break. It is soft copper and get compressed as the drain bolt get tightened down. If the bolt is over tightened, you would strip the thread on the oil pan before break the drain washer. I imagine even if you reinstalled the drain bolt without the washer, it would probably just dripping instead of pouring.
Based on your description of the rapid oil leak, my guess is that they probably forgot to tighten the drain bolt and it eventually backed out from the vibration. I think the engine might be ok if it had at least 1 quart of oil before shutting down. Quote:
