Just want to share my horror story
I bought a used 2010 370z Nismo(41k miles) on August 13th of this year. I bought it from a KIA dealership that obviously got it from a Nissan dealership. I have no idea why they had it. They have lots of performance cars. STI's, SRT-8 challengers, BMW M3's, GTR's, etc.
Things go well for a while. Car runs and drives great. One day I get in and start it up. SES light on & Idle at 1100 RPM. I drive straight to auto zone and the guy says Cylinder #5 misfire. So I take it to the kia dealership and I stand around for a few hours and they come out to me saying "Did you put bad gas in this?" Um no..it's still on the same tank YOU filled it with when I bought it. I hadn't even drove it 100 miles since I bought it, and it's already got problems. So I ended up having to pay out of pocket for octane booster even though I paid extra for the warranty. They cleared the code and sent me on my way. It happens again a week later. I take it back in and they give me a loaner car after I had to raise a hell storm of course. Then they tell me they changed the oil for me when I bought the car and put the wrong oil in...So they called up Nissan and got the ester oil. Changed it and cleared the code. A week later it happens AGAIN!! They keep telling me its because of cold start conditions. It hasn't even been close to cold outside here yet. So this time, I said: "What if I take it to a NISSAN dealership and have them look at it" the service manager says that's fine and he knows another service manager at the nissan dealership closer to where I live. I take the car there and they conclude that it has a bad battery. So they gave me a battery. (194$) not paid by me. Thank you warranty. Here we are again. The nissan dealership has had my car for 12 days. I don't even know what all has been done at this point. I've been told that the coil pack was replaced, and they said they were going to replace an injector, then the next day they call and say wait a minute, nevermind we are going to do a compression test on all cylinders. That takes 5 days just by itself because they "Dont have the right adapter" So I said I would go buy a compression test kit RIGHT NOW. The service manager looked pissed off at me for suggesting that. Now today they say that they are going to test for a blown head gasket. What the F?? Service manager says he gets all this information from "Nissan". His technicians don't know what step to take next until they consult with "Nissan"? What does that even mean? Are they calling Japan asking what to do next? I have been extremely patient when everyone around me has been telling me to get a lawyer and get my money back. I don't want to do that. I love the car. My patience is running out. At this point I just want my car back. I could have done everything that they have done in 1-2 days. Last bit. My car is the only Z car on the lot, there isn't even a used base model or even an old 350z. Should I take my car to a different dealership or something? /END Rant |

Get a lawyer and get your money back, i.e. listen to everyone else around you.
If I was getting jerked around like that, I'd be absolutely pissed. I guess you can wait for them to eventually do a shitty job of rebuilding your motor before it blows again and then they install a short block from Nissan that also won't quite run right, etc. or you can cut your losses and try to get your money back on the car right now, and buy something that isn't a misbehaving pile of crap that will be a headache for weeks to come. Give them an ultimatum, say, I want my car in x # of days or I will get a lawyer or call Nissan corp and put several complaints. See how fast they react to that.

Here's a little bit of an update. I wrote on the dealership's facebook page that I wanted my car back on Friday. The service manager called me and said no problem and that it will be ready in an hour and a half. Got it back. Drove it 150 miles to my friends house no problem. Couple days later it throws the SES light again. So I used my friend's scan tool to turn it off(Thats what the dealership does as well) And drive it back 150 miles. Around mile 130, I look down (Cruise control on at 65 mph) and a bunch of idiot lights are illuminated as you will see in the picture below.
First picture, is the main issue. Second picture is the write up from the dealership service department after the 14 day stretch they had it. Third picture is from today when I was crusing at 65 and all the sudden all these lights come on. I've come to the conclusion that my ECU is faulty. I would really appreciate any insight if anyone has had this problem, or has any idea what the fix might be??? Thank you. |

If you search you will see that fault does come up here or there, it's semi common. How many miles have you put on the car? Mine did it a few times then it's been fine for a few years now...
Engine problem - p0300 - Whats the fix?

Sorry to hear about what your going thru But hang in there.
Worst case scenerio you open a case with Nissan corp and get them involved if your current dealer's not properly fixing it. As an alternative you could try another dealer, But at this point they seem to be doing what they can to getting it resolved. As frustrating and inconvenience as it can be at this point? There's very little you can do unless they just cant fix it, Then maybe look into Trying another dealer or claiming it a lemon if everything fails. You will need to check your local laws to see whats needed to qualify as a lemon since it varies state to state. Keep us posted and Best of luck they get it resolved. |

Your gonna get all kinds of ideas from different people...there is no filing under lemon laws as you bought it used. There is no suing the dealer to get your money back and all that silliness... Your out of Factory warranty so unless there is a service bulletin or recall on said component...factory can and has a right to deny claims. Now your vehicle should have power train warranty on it covering you engine and tranny...if you got a bad ECU...Powertrain warranty will not apply !
Now if you bought an EXTENDED warranty , you'd be fully protected , you may have to pay an $50-100 deductable at best...but warranty covers 85% of the car - minus wearables...tires, wiper blades , hoses, batteries ect. Some if not most people forgo because they don't wanna pay the 25-30 bucks extra a month...but worth it if you need it. Technically if you don't have any of the above mentioned your *** out ! The dealer has A SMALL PROVISION , 30 DAYS OR 1,000 MILES WARRANTY...IT MAY BE 50/50 IT NORMALLY ONLY COVERS MAJOR COMPONENTS. IF ALL ESLSE...TRADE IT AND SUCK UP YOUR LOSSES and buy from Nissan dealer next time , and buy an extended warranty and you'll have no worries. |

A quick note on Lemon Laws...there are a few states that vary from the norm however your car has to be in the shop a **consecutive ** 30 days for the same issue. The factory will send a rep and or a tech to investigate issue and if it can't be resolved then they will buy back the vehicle...and 9 out of 10 times if your still paying on it ,they will do an exchange of collateral ...meaning put you in a new but like car and give the new vin number to leinholder , they will pay the difference to the dealer vs. what you owe on your loan and payments will not change nor what you owe...So yes you get a new car...but your not going to get another brand or upgrade to a BMW or something.
Years ago...manufactures were buying back 1000's of vehicles...now it's almost impossible or much harder to accomplish because they have contingencies and work arounds for everything...if its a safety issue would be the exception. |

There will be a Nissan Engineer looking at it all day Monday. I feel like...if HE of all people can't figure out the issue, then I should get something in motion. Also, the car is paid off. I owe nothing. Last edited by GunWorxx; 10-14-2015 at 08:01 PM. |
