When did I say free? Of course you're going to pay an hourly labor rate. One key question is how ridiculous is that rate.

Actually, I think you nailed it. Some dealer's profit margin on some service is just that ... ridiculous. I am not speaking to Universal Nissan specifically, as I do not have any direct experience with them. To be honest, looking at the list more thoroughly, that actually doesn't sound like a horrible dealer price for quite a bit of work. But don't think they aren't lining their pockets with your hard earned money.

I question some of that stuff at 30K miles. Like coolant or power steering. If you truly need a coolant flush at 30K miles, there is likely something else at play other than just dirty fluid. The coolant is supposed to last 120K miles according to Nissan.

I also question whether they actually did the work - I like to watch the tech put in the new fluid and confirm it is correct. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...

Why keep extra fluid around if you're not going to use it? I just dump it with the old fluid. And you are really paying someone to dispose of the old fluids?!?! I'm pretty sure it's a law here that auto shops are required to take those fluids to dispose of them properly. I just take them to the Lamb's Automotive in my neighborhood. One time the guy was happy to see the unused portions of Redline trans and diff fluids and took those for his own use

Once again, I never said free. I never said anything about using the dealer's garage. Their hourly labor rates include all of that

What did I estimate?

Tools that plug into the OBD2 port range from $10 to $10,000+ and features range from only reading codes to full access to every possible computer setting in the car. ALL YOU NEED IS ONE THAT READS TRANSMISSION FLUID TEMPERATURE. The ones that can read transmission fluid temperature are not very expensive and easily found at pretty much any mechanic shop that exists. Some guys have one in their garage (I know of one online for $300).

If the dealer told you that a 7AT transmission fluid change requires a Nissan "exclusive" tool, then they are blowing smoke up your a$$. And if you believe them, I am just trying to inform you that they are blowing smoke up your a$$

Break the law or move to a different country, maybe?

Whenever the dealer works on my car, I have anything but peace of mind

That is a big part of the reason I do all the work on the Z that I can, and I go to a mechanic that specializes in working on Z cars when I don't trust myself. Not to mention I've saved thousands of dollars by doing work myself (but I understand that's not for everyone).

There's a DIY on the g37 site for changing the 7AT fluid. Give it a read, not too difficult.

6MT ftw though. Just drain and refill until it starts flowing out.

I highly doubt they shorted me on anything, especially how anal I was
Thats good if thats the case, I lost my trust with car dealers. I know not all of them are bad. End of the day... Whats important your satisfied with what you paid for and your peace of mind is indeed priceless.

Nothing wrong to pay that much if you can afford it. To some their time is more valuable which seems be your case.

Btw your right "nothing is for free"

The Altima rental they provided you...you paid for that too.

I would say the price is fair with Nissan dealer standard
And
your dealer has good customer service.

Wait, wasn't the AT fluid sealed and not changeable? I remember reading it somewhere here

It's serviceable. It's just the average DIYer/shop doesn't have the tools to refill and measure the temp of the transmission oil once drained. Heck, even some Nissan dealers are clueless on how to change it.
If not done properly, a new transmission could be needed. That's why the service manual states no maintnance needed to prevent improper protocol. I guess their rationale is better to not change it than a new tranny. Or maybe they want to increase the sales of new Z when the tranny fails
