Those with ext warranty - Did it save you?

I just picked up a 2012 Touring (Nav)with 24K miles on it. The factory warranty still has a few months before it runs out. I am on the fence with getting an extended warranty due to funds. This is my 2nd Z and had no issues with my previous but this 370 has much more toys and electronics. I am concerned that if something goes and I am out of warranty that it may hit the pocket hard.

My question is for those of you with 2009+ Z's have you had any major electronic issues wether you have the extended warranty or not. Any "glad I have the ext warranty stories" or just not worth the money???

With both my POS Nissans I have saved 10s of thousands

Yes, I mean 10s. My Maxima went through 14k of repairs in 11 months of ownership (mostly BS to keep the car fresh) the 370 has gotta be in at about 10k. 2 seat bases, window stuff, ECU, fuel sending units, gauge cluster, etc.

Most cars nowadays are pretty reliable. The 370Z has been out long enough that most of the major problems are well-known. But every manufacturer puts out the occasional klunker (see DE.50's comment above).

As with all insurance policies, it just depends on your circumstances. I can't afford a big repair bill so I usually get an extended warranty. I don't remember ever having to make use of them but I sleep better knowing I have them. YMMV

YES, GET IT!
It's saved me for sure, other then my repeated CSC most of my stuff was under the standard warranty...but a CSC can add up fast.
I've also had a few Fuel Pump issues, ECU SL which now has a recall out for, didn't when mine went...

naw, i never get ext warranties.

the ONLY 2 factory defect issues ive had on my 09 were:

1. sliding/knocking noise driver seat bench - fixed myself, $0
2. hatch gate not unlocking unless double press on button - fixed myself $0.04

:shakes head: just because you put on 300K miles does not mean you are better than me.

I would never buy an extended warranty. Just take that money and invest it. Hopefully nothing will happen and maybe you'll make some money instead of throwing it away.

yep, plus one can always buy ext warranty later. get all these 'aftermarket' ext warranty offers all the time near 3-4th year. :ugh:

I got it. Saved me a bunch too...the 7AT has been replaced 3 times. Each time under warranty, i figure those are probably between $2k - $5k. I'd say it was well worth it.

wow, i thought the AT on this car was bullet proof.

were you like doing neutral drops from 10K RPM? :icon17: btw, nice job converting your car to nismo look.

I did not purchase warranty on my '09 Sport Touring 7AT but should have I had one repair at 60K (compressor failure) which cost 1,400. Sure I may have been out another 300-400 dollars on the cost of the extended warranty but it could have been worse if it was something electronic or mechanical outside of the power train warranty.

Details about the auto tranny failure? Miles?

From a pure numbers perspective, an extended warranty isn't worth it. The manufacturers don't offer them to protect you--they offer them to make money. And they are priced in such a fashion.

I'm sure you'll find plenty of people who, from a financial perspective, came out ahead by having an extended warranty. You could be one of these people as well. These are the outliers though. On average, it will not save you money.

With that said, there are other intangibles, such as peace of mind, that an extended warranty provides. You just have to decide if that is worth the cost to you.
