Stock Brakes Question
I tried searching but with no answers, and hopefully this is the right section.
I recently traded my 07 Z Base to an 09 Z Touring w/ Sports Package and when cold (i.e. first start up) and backing out, the brakes make a whistling noise when applied and stops when released. Not a squeal or screech, but thinking of a person whistling really loud. After the car warms up (and brakes too), the brakes don't make any noise whatsoever. Someone suggested that I apply wd-40, but isn't this a lubricant? I really didn't like this idea and wanted to ask for feedback on what I could do to make this whistle noise go away. |

The brake pad backings will make noise sometimes when the caliper piston comes in contact with the pad backing. Grease up the backing plate to reduce that noise. Also do some moderate to hard braking from around 60mph down to 5mph but dont stop. Do this a few times to rebed the brake pads to remove any sediments on the face of the rotor.

Its normal. Don't put WD-40 on your brakes.

What happened to the comments
The guy who said WD40 wants you to die. Proactively beat him instead. Or if the comments were deleted due to "violence"... Watch him put WD40 on his first

The back up/screech noise is common for the g37s with sport brakes. We took the G to the Infiniti dealer. They lubricated it and it was quiet only for about a month or so.
However, I don't have that noise on my Z. Quote:

I checked the brake pads this morning and they are all brand new (and yes, I checked both the outside and inside brake pads), so I know for a fact that it's not because of the pads are getting low. I tried using CRC Brakleen (which btw, this stuff is awesome!) to see if was maybe debris. Clean brakes, but still with the whistling noise. So I'm thinking perhaps the dealership didn't apply the lubricant on the shims?

hope you didnt go to town with brake cleaner while your wheels were still on the car that stuff + brake dust can stain your wheels. worst case your wheel weight tape is also weakened.. |
