Sounds like you're letting it sit in Neutral for too long. Anytime you pause between gears SRM preps at a nice "halfway" point since it doesn't know if you're going up or down. A nice, smooth motion keeps it in check.

From my understanding, if SRM has a true issue, you will see it either 1. All the time in every gear change, or 2. Never, because it will just not function.
I found this post that seems to be in line with what I'm experiencing

syncro rev match

I've read that SRM will make the rpm hang for an upshift but it seems like it'll hang and then rev an additional 200-300 rpm or so
