Shortage of used Roadsters?

Can anyone explain why there is a shortage or drought of used Roadster's on the market?
I don't mind going over 2,000 miles for a car, but frankly, there is an inventory drought across the country. For instance, on AutoTrader, there are only 4 roadsters listed across the USA:

2012-2014
370Z Roadster
Navigation
Any Color
Any Mileage

Even if you add 2010 and 2011, there is a signficant shortage. Why? In addition, what's crazy is that were heading into winter. You would think there would be more inventory in the off season? Is the demand crazy right now for pre-owned? Help?

Up here..

Up here in BC verts account for close to half the available 370s for sale right now. When I was looking for my coupe I looked in WA state but I didn't think there was much money to be saved importing a new one so I bought up here. That ought to tell you that when a seller sees you're serious and gets real on their price combined with the 10% premium on your dollar versus ours nowadays might make looking up here worth your time. I'm not sure what the rules are for importing a car into the states from up here, but it can't hurt you to find out.
Our climate in the BC Lower Mainland is the same as yours in the Pacific NW and most, if not all 370 owners up country don't drive theirs in winter anyway, so it just might make looking further afield worth your while too.
Just Google '370Z for sale in BC', or '370Z for sale in Alberta'. There's lots of 'em for sale up here. I just looked. AutoTrader has close to a dozen roadsters of all years for sale right now in BC. Most of them are inside of a couple hundred miles from you.

104,

Thanks for the advice. Not sure why my AutoTrader is not picking up BC, or Canada. Perhaps, I need to change a setting in my profile? I do use All of Craigslist, as an alternative, but it's not preferred.

Great tip to go north!

Zvez,

Sorry, my criteria was not complete:

2012-2014
370Z Roadster
MT 6 spd
Navigation
Any Color
Any Mileage

With Manual and Navigation, there are only 4 listings on cars.com. Two of which have listing errors. (1) is listed as a MT, but it's a 7AT, and (1) has no Nav. Base Model. So, there are two listed on both Trader and Cars.com The whole country. Amazing. Why is there a shortage of used? I know the Z is not a high production model, but still, there's local trades and auctions, and you would think there would at least be a dozen out there?

Are you trying to filter on Manual and Nav? You may want to just look at what comes back without nav checked off and scan. You won't be overwhelmed as there are not that many Rs to begin with. So many adds are incorrect with one thing or another, I find it better to look at pics :)

Touring is needed in order to get a Nav, so start there with the visual clues.

Many roadsters were loaded as GT cars though I believe less manuals seem to be out there in the later years. Our 2010 is stuffed with options and one of only 7 I think built that year with that spec setup from the build numbers I checked out in the past.

Not surprised that the numbers are low in general, and this time of year being
a bad one to move verts regardless.

Good luck,

- b

Hey Z-Coug. Check out ebay Motors as well. Pickings are also slim but there might be a few there that are different from auto-trader.

bvl,

Thanks for the tip. Yes, I'll remove Navigation. I might even remove Manual Transmission. There are so many listing errors, mostly from third parties that the dealers have sourced out to. The problem is, when you remove these filters, you spend a lot of time going through the listing photos, verifying features and equipment, in addition to listing errors and seeking for mistakes. But why should I complain? Chasing is half the fun, right?

Few hours time for the precise thing you want (and will likely keep for years?) :)

A year ago we spent a lot of time searching for a proverbial unicorn: 335d with sport package and AL trim. Z trim packages are a joke compared to the nonesense that zee germans put people through with individual codes, combos, and other build to order options. I was about ready to fly out to Portland for one when I stumbled on a private lot alpine white m-sport 50 miles away.

Three years ago we were on the hunt for a Z with nav and stumbled upon the roadster with 2400 miles we ended up getting a few states away.

You end up with some strong search-fu. :driving:

Speaking of shortage - is there any list of how many 370 roadsters for each year were sold in the US or North America? Would be great to have a break down of colors too, but any numbers would be interesting.
