Question on unscrewing Roadster antenna
Folks, couple of quick questions on unscrewing the Roadster antenna.
-Did people use tools or were they able to unscrew by hand? (I've twisted as hard as my hands can grab and still haven't broken it loose) -If tools were used, did it damage the part with teeth marks, etc? -Does both the rubber and the "conical" plastic parts unscrew, or just the rubber part? Any hints appreciated, thanks. |
There is a little base part that stays on the trunk, but you should be able to twist the antenna off with your hand.
Pliers may help your grip but would damage the stock antenna...which may not matter if you already have the replacement. Maybe put on some rubber gloves to help your grip? |
If you must use pliers, wrap the antenna with a rag or towel. Apply the minimal amount of pressure to break it loose.

Update...
Thanks for suggestions of wrapping it, I ended up using tape but still managed to bite through the tape and nick the OEM antenna a bit, but not too bad.
There's quite a bit of turning torque all the way out (need pliers the whole way), did others experience this as well when removing the OEM antenna? (the threads didn't look messed up on a quick inspection post removal FWIW) |
i had the sameeeeee problem man....i think the factory cross threaded it

Isn't this where you hold the antenna and you get 8 offensive linemen to pickup the car and rotate around you?
