Interior removal - behind seats

I know this could belong in the Interior/Exterior portion - but this is roadster related. Did a search there...and nada.

Has anyone removed the area behind the seats to put sound deadening there?

I started playing with it a few weeks ago - and I think it's relatively easy as there are all the typical push lock tabs. It was too hot in my garage so I postponed it.

If anyone has - let me know. I know there is a thread about sound deadening where the top is - while installing a smart top module.

Have you looked at the service manual for any tips about disassembly of the interior? In the section titled INT, from page 54 to 80 it shows how to take the entire back wall of the passenger compartment apart. Lots of clips and pawls, a few bolts. It uses a "removal tool" extensively. It starts with seat removal. The last thing removed after everything else is the rear parcel shelf finisher assembly. That's what they call the back wall of the passenger compartment.

I have to say that putting sound deadening material on the forward surface of the top storage compartment seems worlds easier than taking the interior apart to put it on the front side of that same panel. Of course I could be wrong. It happens.

I'll look in the manual - I have a pdf version of it as well as hard copy. Service or owners?

The trunk was easy as well as the door panels...and the top of the top storage should be easy as well.

When you move the seats up...and tap hard on the carpet on the wall below the storage bin part - it's carpet then metal. And that is were a lot of noise/vibration is coming from. Road to Metal to interior. Plus its pretty much where the drivetrain meets the back axle.

Did some research - downloaded a pdf of the full service manual...and now know how to do EVERYTHING!

Everything is almost an understatement. The service manual printed out two-sided is about two feet tall. It fills an entire drawer of a full sized office file cabinet.

Now that I've done it (sigh) I find it much more convenient than the pdf. I just don't have any idea where I'm going to put the ten full three-ring binders.

Good luck with the removal. I had the service manual and it was still sketchy. I went very carefully, didn't want to break the plastic, and I still didn't get all of the pieces off.

Did you do both the area under the top, and then the area behind and under the seats in the cabin?

I haven't tried yet - but may this weekend.

Did you get a "removal tool" from Nissan, or, if not, what did you use to pop the panels apart?

I did not get the tool...i've learned how to just pull the "right" way. I probably should buy one. I have a whole back of various clips from all my work on my Infinitis. So should i break 1 or 5 - i have back up. Learned the hard way to have extras.

I have not done this project yet. Haven't had the time and it's gotten colder here.

Did you have any luck with pulling the back interior? I've successfully removed the inner kick plates, removed the side finishers (the part with the place for rear speakers), the rear parcel shelf covers (carpeted things in the rear parcel shelf), and the then the seat back center finisher (the plastic piece that goes from the carpet to the parcel shelf area).

The only thing that thwarted me for a bit was that you need to remove the seat belt anchor bolt to get the side finishers off. You can then thread the side finisher off the belt and leave the rest of the seat belt intact.

There's a bunch of fabric type crap jammed under the parcel shelf that looks like Nissan intended it to be for sound reduction.

This is still a project to do - I was hoping to get to it Thursday or this weekend.

Any hints or DIY on those pieces? the ones you listed are about all i want to do...

Nothing that seemed tricky beyond what I mentioned above on having to pull the seat belt anchor bolt (the one close to your shoulder). There are some of the black removable "rivet" thingys on the center shelf that aren't super obvious.

You also need to remove the 4 screws on the center console (and lift it up for clearance) but don't need to remove it.

Also - did you add sound deadening in those areas...and if so notice a difference?

I was going to put sound deadening in the wheel wells...but found in the rear there is no plastic housing covering the interior of the wells. Ridiculous.

But I still love my car.

This certainly doesn't seem to have any structural value if much at all. Any idea why I should not remove this bracket? With the bracket removed I can put 2x 12" woofers right underneath the rear strut brace bar without messing with the minimal trunk space that we have in these. Thoughts?

Though yes, with the plastic bits removed behind the rear seats road noise is unbearable at highway speeds, I will sound deaden the area before I reinstall everything.
