Video Request...
Would someone mind taking a phone video of their top retracting, specifically in the area where the wire bundle rides the top frame on the drivers side?
My wiring bundle was replaced under warranty because it had a sensor wire fail and was indicating that top was not all the way open or closed. The bundle rubs the front corner of the top when the canopy closes. The car is currently at the dealer and they are looking at it. I just want to know what it is supposted to do/look like before I go to pick it up. I know what it is doing now is not correct as it is starting to abrade the very corner of the canvas. As the top is retracted, the bundle coils toward the middle of the car and then rubs the canvas as the canopy starts the close cycle. Sometimes there is enough contact to shift the path of the canopy and make a popping sound. I wish I had taken a vid before I dropped it off so I could better explain what I mean. Any help or insight woud be greatly appreciated. |
The problem is on the frame and the wiring.
They need to replace the canvas for sure.. plus some area of the frame has to be smoothen out. Wiring has to be rearranged too. Mine has a similar problem last year and they did those work during replacing the canvas. Good luck on yours man...!! :icon17: |
Thanks Al. My service manager rocks and is taking good care of me. I know that is hard to believe... but true. He is a car guy and owns a '14 GTR. I am sure they will get it sorted out for me.

Camera phone video? Nope. I don't have a camera phone.
I do, however, have a GoPro and a Roadster, so if I understand what you want and have a place to send it, yes. If that'll work for you. |
Read about my experience. It's not worth disassembling your top. Have the dealer order a whole new top assembly factory wired and plumbed and you'll be good to go without the tech's butchering your canvas and frame trying to fix it.

Still need the video? I can go do it in the garage and stick it on YouTube for you. Just let me know. Email me is best, I don't hop on here all the time - chrisdbenjamin@gmail.com |

same problem will occur if they replace the whole assembly since the design of the top has not been revised. they need a specialist to do the work. my dealer sent the Z to a softtop specialist to get it fixed. |
Thanks for the offers and input! Picked the car up this afternoon and the problem doesn't appear to be what I thought it was. Somehow, the emergency release cable was caught up in (wrapped around the frame and the lower part of the electrical cable bundle. They removed the steel cable and are replacing it when it comes in off of back order. That is what was causing the frame to bind. It seems smooth and operating normally now. I am speculating that the routed the cable and wires wrong when it was replace the first time.
