Roll Over Hoops (bars)
I have been trying to find some accurate info on the structural integrity of the hoops on our convertibles without much success , so I did some serious looking. I stopped opening the top, with the lid all the way up before the top folds down into the compartment. Pulled back the black curtain, leaned way over in there with a flashlight, and there they are. Big steel hoop bars welded to a large horizontal steel bar that is connected to the frame. ( similar the the on visible in the coupe.) No doubt in my mind these hoops are functional roll over protection. Peace of Mind!
Regards PS: now I see where all how the road noise gets in. |
Pics?

Hoops
No, no pics. It would be really hard, for me anyway, to get a camera in there, then I'd have to learn how to post them. I did have to remove a couple od those plastic fasteners to get the curtain back far enough.

Interesting, vert's are a no go on the track in NJ because of a lack of roll over protection.

So - now another place for me to put sound deadening. Assuming i can get my hands in there...

Sounds to me those are simply bows and structure for the top itself. They may help to quell some of the shakes but from a safety perspective I would not bet a donut they do anything to save the noggin. The hoops behind the seats are what actually help protect in case the car does go over (and lets not test their design, OK folks? :) )

I hope this helps, I too searched about 4 hours till i found this. |
I like this. Now I know for certain I have to pull out the seats and rear wall and sound deaden there.
Also - the bows of the top are never for roll over protection - only for element protection with the top. The roll over bars and their position is part of the reason the seats in a roadster sit lower than in the coupe. So the bars protect a "normal" sized person in case of roll over. |
cool can i get rep points even though i have no ideal what they do or even how to give em? i mean can i trade em in like tix at chuckecheese?
