Default Sports button

Hi All,

My 7AT doesn't come with a sports button. Just want to check if the response is similar to simply putting the gear knob to manual mode? Or is manual + sports button even more responsive?

Cheers!

The 6MT has the S-Mode (SRM) button but the 7AT does not. I suppose putting the 7AT into manual could be called sports mode.

The 7AT doesn't have an SRM (synchro rev match) button because the automatic transmission rev matches for you regardless of whether you're in manual or auto mode. As others have mentioned, if you want drive "sportier", just switch over to manual mode.

Bingo!

Being in the manual mode is all you need. That IS the sport button!

I still have not used my car in S-Mode since the first day. It throws me off and I'm just used to driving a manual the standard way without the aid of a computer.

Sorry bro, Sports mode is a no go.

Sports Mode = Manual Transmission

You can’t be sporty in a car like this without working the clutch and gear box.

So you have always heel and toed. That’s all it is. I’m not sure how that can throw you off?

I left SRM on for about a week to learn where the car likes to shift, but I like to rev match myself and leave it turned it off 95% of the time. When SRM is on, I sometimes find myself fighting it. The most common occurrence is blipping the throttle on top of SRM. This gives undesired results when downshifting (RPMs are too high).

Legitimate sports cars don't need a "sport" button to change the weight of their steering wheel, change dampening, increase throttle response, open exhaust valves to sound louder. It should have all this baked in 100% of the time from the get go. It's just a gimmick for people in their luxury cars to show to their buddies, and it goes untouched 99% of the time.

Is this really a serious question? If you're complaining about the lack of a sport button in a sports car, then it's likely you don't understand the dynamics of what the system controls. Sport buttons are for BMW drivers who need a nanny. It's there to give unskilled drivers a bit more fun but still catches their mistakes at the limit. In the Z, either turn off the VDC and change gears yourself or leave it on and drive in automatic. It will either watch your back so you don't crash or leave you alone to do the most of the work yourself and could care less when you crash.

Heal toe is for the track...I just rev match when driving. It's a habit since I've been driving a stick for almost 18 years now and it's just hard to stop. It doesn't feel right if I'm not doing it.

Thanks for your replies.

My last 2 cars was an Audi S5 and a BMW 335i and I saw some Z promo photos with a 7AT and also with a sports button...thus the question. Sorry if I have offended any 6MT purists and BMW haters...

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Did you buy your car with the sports package? If you did it has the rev match built in in manual mode on the down shifts.
