I would like your feedback/experience on cloth vs leather seats.. What is your honest opinion if you did not have the cooled seat option? Thanks

I gotta have the leather. To me, it makes the interior just that much more sexy. AND the air condition seats just makes it that much better
However, without the AC I might reconsider the leather

Leather all the way, when to breaks 100 the cooled seat don't do much anyways. The leather just give the feel of a classy car think cloth would make it feel cheapish IMO.

Just to point out, the seats are not A/C. There is a fan in the back of each seat that blows air at ambient temperature. It does feel cool though when your back is sweating.

Really...what about the different settings it has. I can make mine with the dial adjust the coolness. How does that happen w/o AC?

From the repair manual: SEAT CUSHION AND SEATBACK TEMPERATURE ADJUSTMENT FUNCTION • One thermal electric device (TED) unit is installed in each seat cushion and seatback. The device heats or cools, sends airflow to the seat surface, and adjusts the seat temperature. • The thermal electric device (TED) is a heat exchanger that has a function to heat or cool the airflow from the seat cushion blower motor and seatback blower motor. (By changing the direction of the current from the power supply, the device takes or gives heat, and adjusts exchange process depending on voltage. Last edited by Ubetit; 08-21-2012 at 03:13 PM. |

I really appreciate all of your responds... The reason I was wanting some cloth feedback is because every car I have owned in the last 15 years has had leather and even though they are not verts they are hot as hell in the summer and make me sweat pretty bad.
One of the vehicles that I own now (1970 Bronco) has no top and has synthetic leather waterproof seats that you could not pay me to sit on if the bikini top was off. My idea was if I parked this future purchase roadster with the top down I can jump in without burning my a$$! Your thoughts... |

Just FYI, I have a little thermoelectric cooler I use for drinks on long trips. It keeps my drinks about 40 degrees cooler than the ambient air temp. It's not ice cold by any means but i don't have to worry about using ice or loosing volume inside due to the ice. |

Your interior and seats will be hot sitting in full sun with the top down. The mesh in the middle of the leather sides on the roadster with the cooled seats does help though.

Gotta go with the leather cooled seats they are great!
On an odd side note they have some practical uses. Last month while OMW to my sister's for the nephew's B'day I get a panicked call from her. Seems eveyone forgot to pick up a cake for the party and as they live out of town this was a HUGE problem. So I get drafted to pick-up a cake, not a normal cake mind you a freakin ICE CREAM cake and I'm driving in the Z w the top down and temps in the 90s. Picked up the cake, cranked the passenger seat to full blast and the cake made it for the 35 minute drive w no issues. So yeah get the leather

So this morning my garage air temp thermometer was 79 degrees. Most of the stuff inside my garage measured between 77-79 degrees with the infrared thermometer as well. I turned the car on and let the seat run on cool for a minute. Where the best airflow was the seat bottom measured 68.2 degrees at the coolest point and varied to 70.2 at its coolest point in the seat back. The surrounding leather was 77 degrees. So while it definately cools, it's not going to keep an ice cream cake from melting.
When you jump into a car with the roof up, blacks seats and the sun beating down, i'm sure the interior temps will measure into the 120+ degree range. My leather portion of the seats can get over 100 degrees sitting in the sun with the top down! In those cases the seats may feel relatively cold when you turn the cooler on. Of course this isn't a scientific study but it's all the energy i'm going to put into it for now. |
