Nope, not a mid-life crisis. One might actually say it is a sound and logical decision!

I wouldn't consider that a mid life crisis thing. I would consider it a trying to live crisis thing. Cars are so much safer than motorcycles.

Question

Couple of questions:
  1. How long have you been married to your wife?
  2. Why would you give up something that brings a solitude unattainable through a car?
After thirty-nine years of riding I would suspect your wife already understands your passion. If it is for health reasons then that is entirely another issue. I am looking to purchase another bike. Sorry, once it's in your blood there's no denying it (I've already tried do, and it doesn't work).

We bought the Z because the wife can't ride any more. It hurts her wrists. So I figured I'd sell the Gixxer, and the Yamahahahahaha to fund my aftermarket purchases for the Z.
As of now we still have both bikes, the sit in the garage next to the Z. All sad since they haven't been rode much since the Z arrived.
I guess what I saying is that you have to do what YOU feel in your heart.
I know for myself the Z was a way for the wife and I to still enjoy time togther. An the kids Hate IT lol
The back ground to understand this is in 04 I hit a gravel spot in a left hand turn doing close to 85MPH on a back rode. Hit a guard rail and torn myself up. SHe was 100yards behind me an watched it happen. So I realised for her peace of mind the Z was the best for both of US. Sorry so long.

Was your bike only a summer vehicle? I assume your winters are brutal in PA?

I'm not married and am under 40 so maybe this won't help... but I sold my 06 BMW K1200R in April and replaced it with a 370Z in May. I only rode streetbikes for the past 5 years and before that rode dirtbikes as I was from a farm.

I don't miss my bike yet, but unless I bought a super-exotic car I will never duplicate the acceleration/performance of my K1200R which had 163hp. On the other hand, while blindspots are bad in the Z coupe (N/A to the convertible!), I don't miss worrying about being in car blindspots on a bike...for driving in traffic I don't miss the bike at all.

Dude, I'm trying to leverage the wife's worrying into a $35k+ 370z roadster ......she never told me I had to do this. She understands my love of the fresh air. Perhaps I will find that I can't deny it either? I'm thinking the tongue-in-cheek part of my initial post didn't come thru to clearly.

By the way, the bike is a 2000 Honda Valkyrie Interstate with just about every goodie that was ever made for them on it. And lately, the only riding I've been doing is commuting to and from work in lovely NJ!

Yeah I hit a patch of sand near the beach with my wife behind me. I think we both said "Oh Noes!" at the same time. Luckily I didn't fall or drop the bike. That rear 240 tire saved me.

I enjoy cruising on the bike...Night Rod Special...hopefully, I can stay healthy to ride for many years to come.

Rans, I am sure you'll make the right choice. If you do get rid of her and find that you need a bike, then you can always look for a replacement.
It's hard to see my bike just sitting there not being ridin, but I know the my wife and kids sleep better knowing I am not out riding like I did before the accident. Being out of work for ten months can put a strain on a relationship, and family.

Too true - here's the latest incarnation of my "other" ride. At 65, I've yet to find a substitute for riding when it comes to clearing my head of all the crap we put up with on a daily basis. Ride hard and don't look back.
