I tried my high beans this morning. The dash light didn't seem that bright. Maybe the Canadian version is different. Or maybe the roadster version is different

Nissan is making sure you know how it feels to be blinded by high beams. I remember thinking it was a tad bright, but I havn't driven my Z in 3 months =( so I'm not sure anymore.

That's the title of the thread:
"High Bean indicator... does this annoy anyone else?"

Well its good to see that there are others that agree regarding the indicator light's excessive brightness. I've driven many cars and have never seen one as bright as my 370Z (and I had a 350Z before this car that didn't have this problem).
For most of you that don't seem to notice it or don't use your high beams much, you must live in larger cities and don't need to turn the high beams on much. Up here on the sticks of Vermont we use our high beams more often I guess, as there are a lot of dark roads, with no street lights. Anyways, I will say that the Z's low beams do a pretty good job of illuminating the road well so I don't mind driving with just the low beams on, even usually when its really dark. Its not a major problem, I was just curious to see if others felt it was excessively bright (just a little forum small talk). krzykanuk... when you said you tried your high beams this "morning" as in while it was light outside? If that's the case then you will not get a sense of its brightness at all. Test it at night when driving down a dark road without any other traffic and you well see what I mean. Nothing but BLUE glaring at you from your peripheral vision as you stare at the road. |

it was 5:30 am and it was dark. the sun doesn't come up until around 7 these days. I could see that it might be annoying if there were no street lights and you had your dash lights turned way down and no nav screen on.

Also, I'm tall so I have the seat all the way back, which might make a difference.

I agree it is much too bright. I like to use high bean when driving unlit country roads here (UK) at night. For one thing it means you see any stray animals on the road nice and early. But the blue indicator is so bright you feel your eyes adjusting to the dazzle. Unfortunately that means you see less on the road ahead, which is stupid. It is meant to be a reminder (hence can't be dimmed) but somebody blundered and made it much too bright.
Might be time for some insulation tape. |
