I like this idea, hardtop is the best of both worlds imo.

I don't think the Z is well designed for a HT. The integrated cover for the existing top would sure make it interesting for any hard top to securely latch.
I also think based on the wear I see on mine, as well as from pictures of top replacements on this forum, that there are pinch points and wear areas with the top down. One service rep said they would replace my top. The next one said no. So I am keeping a very careful eye on it (2010, saw wear signs after 1 year and 3K miles...this is unacceptable IMHO: that is not wear...that is new) Pinch points when down are somewhat unavoidable with vinyl/cloth top verts. I saw a fair amount of it in the miata world though the miata top was very durable, and when correctly cared for could last 10+ years with a HT as well ( used a hardtop on mine for 3 months a year in the north east for 13 years: I had a minor wear point on my 2002 top replacement for the OEM 92 top lasted 10 years or so). ill say this.. I actually saw a hard top Miata yesterday... and while everyone knows the doors are the most superior on the market, i wasn't sure a hard top would follow suite... however i was mistaken..
hard top Miata looks boss! so.. I think a hard top would look pretty sweet on the Zed as well

Maybe.....depends, although mine is a pretty day only car. I drive a truck when any weather threatens....snow, hail, rain...but a hardtop might be a nice addition.

I would love to see a hard top that goes on over the soft top when its down. That way if I take the car out without the top on I don't get stuck in the rain lol

I think a targa top for the coupes would be awesome. One that can be stored in the trunk just like the corvette.
