If your car is indeed running when you're attempting to open/close the top at idle, I'd bring it in to the dealer. Sounds like an expensive fix if something is broken when you eventually go out of warranty.

yes, the car is running....it seems to have a mind of it own...call the dealer, they said to bring it in! grrr i have 94 km on it...lol

Best of luck, let us know how it turns out...

I had that happen to me a couple of times when I first got my car, but I found out that I wasn't closing the trunk sufficiently to where it would latch. I experienced that if the trunk wasn't latched the top would not open or close. I now make sure the trunk is latched and I haven't had a problem since. This may not be your problem but it is strange that you can get to work after you open and close the trunk. Good luck.

For me it was I had left the top in the half closed position with the tonneau cover open for ~30 mins after which the top refused to open or close on its own. I had to manually fold it and close the cover, and after a couple ignition start & stops and maybe 10 push and holds on the top close button it finally decided to close again. I've heard someone at a dealership refer to it as the top 'falling off the track' and them saying it happens often with the 370z's but have no idea what actually goes wrong. |
great! the dealer has told me that if i have to put it up by hand....to handle like tissue paper cause it will rip!

I had a similar problem when they were tinting my windows...They opened the top half way to try and get to the back window better...Then the top stopped working.
What fixed it...was that we had to bring the front windows back up...then pressed the button to close the top...which brought the front windows back down and started closing the top. |

Jazz,
Interesting problem, the top on mine opens great but when I try to close it the following happens. Storage area opens, soft top starts to expand, then the storage cover closes and the top stops, closes no further, but there is a noice. So what I tried is tapping on the rear part of the top and then it closes. It appears to get stuck or something. I took it to dealer and they played with it for a few hours, put it on a machine and got a hydrolic over heat error. They called Nissan tech support and they told them that the hydrolic motor needs to be replaced. It was ordered 4 weeks ago and still waiting for it to arrive. Jazz you need to drive that car of yours, Even with the top problem I love mine. 3500KM |
Be afraid Be very afraid!!!!
After 4-5 weeks of waiting the hydrolic motor came in and a job that was to take 4-6 hours took 7 long days!!! I informed Nissan Canada that it would appear that alot of individuals are having opening and closing issues with their 370Z. I was told my the dealer that Nissan Canada Techs worked continues with the dealership on the problem and requested that video & pictures be taken during the repair. It would appear that the harness that runs the top is a new design and it don't only run the top but also runs the trunk, rear window defroster and many other items. It look like this one needs to go back to the drawing board! And this morning, day after I got it home, same thing!!. It's going back on Monday for another look. On another note, I was also concerned about the wear on the left and right sides of the windshield, where the roof meets the frame. Dealer told Nissan about the issue also and the dealer told me that Nissan plans to have a product (3M) put on the location to help with the wear.:shakes head: |
