Default More trunk room?

Hey guys, I have a new roadster. In the trunk under the floor mats there is a series of foam inserts that house the fix-a-flat spray, lug wrench and compressor. No spare tire, but this area looks like it was designed for a small spare.

I was wondering, if I removed all of those silly foam inserts all of the parts would take up the same room as a small shoe box. Can I just rip them out and then put the floor mats in the area below? The middle part comes out easy but the two sides seem to be glued or taped in place. has anyone tried this? It seems like a silly waste of space down there. We could gain 5-6" of depth easily.

Thanks

How are the foams on the sides secured? I'm afraid to just rip them out. Bolts? Glue? Nothing?

Thanks

I took all the foam inserts out of my trunk (along with all the plastic sides etc...) when I ran a wire for my backup camera. I can't remember for sure but I think they were held in with velcro. I put it all back together when I was done so however it came out I didn't have any problem putting it back.

Search this forum for "removing trunk foam". Definitely worth it. . I bought some 1&1/2" Styrofoam 4X8 panels from Home Depot, made a paper template, and put the foam down on the bare car floor to cover over the protruding parts. Then push the foam down hard to go over the spare tire bracket in the middle of the trunk. I replaced the cardboard floor panel, carpet, and optional trunk carpet. Lots of extra room. Only thing left is the side walls show the bare car metal. Planning on adding some carpet there just to improve the appearance. I saved the foam pieces in case the next owner wants them. I put all the trunk items in a heavy plastic bag except for the air compressor. After the job you can put as many as two dead guys in there with room to spare, if they're not too big.
