New TSB for 2010-2011 Roadster Owners

Check it out and find out if you're affected.

crash1369 03-16-2011 06:02 AM

 I might be, I'll have to look more closely when it stops raining but I think mine has been. It was such minor rubbing though that I didn't worry about it and figured it was due to the cold, but now I'm not sure.

Daveski38 03-16-2011 06:57 AM

Is anybody else having problems opening the pdf. It could be the fact that I'm at work but haven't had problems in the past?

crash1369 03-16-2011 08:56 AM

It opened fine for me, and I just tried it again.
What kind of problems are you having? Does it even download, any errors, etc?

Daveski38 03-16-2011 11:23 AM

Will not download

crash1369 03-16-2011 04:03 PM

Could be something at work then, do they have any blocks or some sort of internet filtering? Try it again at home.

In related news I checked my car and the windows don't hit the roof, but Damn are they close... like less then 1mm :bowrofl:

Daveski38 03-16-2011 06:30 PM

Opened up for me at home, Damn filters at work.

I'm headed to the garage, don't think it's rubbing the fabric but man is it tight. Have to unlatch the door and wait for the window to drop.

If I don't the window hangs up and doesn't feel, sound or look right.

Highway 03-16-2011 07:53 PM

I went out and looked and mine appears to be okay. I don't see where there is any wear on the soft top at this point, but it's good to know.

I've noticed a weird sound if I open the door to fast. I guess that I need to remember the door a little slower.

Thanks AK,
My Z is covered and in storage, but of course I'll check it as soon as she's back on the road this spring. I have to admit that I was shocked that Nissan actually put out the TSB, but I am pleased with Nissan over the fact that they're stepping up to this issue.

Hi-Step'n370Z 03-17-2011 03:45 PM

Just had a thought. If anyone needs to have the top replaced because of the window rubbing issue, wouldn't that be a very good time to address the other "top tear" issue, by applying a "preventative fix" to prevent the wear through, while the top fabric is off the frame?

As has been posted, there have been a number of those fixes done, and if Nissan has established a way to prevent the wear through issue, I think it would be good for all of us to know exactly what it is, especially the dealership's who are the ones that end up applying it.

Does anyone have an email or some direct way to contact the person or department that could see that this repair info gets into the right hands?

tn370z 03-27-2011 05:09 PM

Just found this TSB and actually had this issue looked at here at the local Nissan dealer off of Hwy 153 in Chattanooga.

Should there be a charge for any of this being repaired?

The service manager "Danny Pippin" looked at my car and even gave me one of his cards, which he wrote the name of someone to look at and fix the top.

He said the windows were not covered under any warranty and since it would be an adjustment, which is only covered to 12,000 miles ( I had 15,299 at the time on 02/02/11) that I would have to pay to have the adjustments done and the top would not be covered under any kind of warranty even though I have Nissans Gold Warranty Package.

http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...escription.jpg

When I got the car back there was so much wind noise, even at 45 to 50 mph, that I had to take it back a second time.
The earliest I could get it back to them was on 02/11/11 for which I was not charged.

crash1369 03-27-2011 05:25 PM

That's why there is a TSB, is should be covered. Give them the number and tell them to look it up, if they won't reimburse you call Nissan.

Hi-Step'n370Z 03-27-2011 05:29 PM

I agree, you should not be charged for a repair covered under a TSB. I ditto what crash1369 said and also that you do what he advised you to do. Let us know how things go for you.

tn370z 03-27-2011 05:56 PM

I will be returning tomorrow to the dealership and ask the service manager again if it is covered then I will get the owner/ manager involved before revealing the TSB, BT10-041, I located here to them and see where it goes then and report back.

crash1369 03-27-2011 11:22 PM

Why, playing games with them is just going to piss them off and make things more difficult for you. Just tell them the number since you've got it and have them look it up, it clearly says what is covered and there shouldn't be any questions.

tn370z 03-28-2011 04:01 PM

:iagree: But it also is not my place to tell them there is a TSB for my car when even THEY tell me today that the first thing they do on every car that comes thru their shop is to check on line for any TSB's that apply to that vehicle.

I did ask the service manager again about the issue and he told me again that the car should be taken to the people he had told me about before and that it was not covered under any type of warranty.

I present the service manager and manager with the COPY of the TSB. They then check to verify it is real, I can understand this, Then I am told they have no idea how it was missed.

I am getting a check to reimburse me for the door adjustment they charged me for. They are ordering me a new top and will notify when I can bring my car in to have it installed. They are also going to provide me a car to drive while my Vehicle is being repaired. (they said they do not normally provide cars to drive during work being done.)

I just smiled and pointed to the GTR in the showroom.

spearfish25 03-29-2011 09:09 AM

I'm amazed you paid that charge in the first place. I'd have raised hell with them if they tried to pull that on me.

tn370z 03-29-2011 05:02 PM

Normally I too would have complained but I needed the windows adjusted to prevent more wear and tear on the top. Now it is not that I could not have done the work myself but since I had just moved into this area in Nov. 2010, I did not have any tools at this house. Now the house I own that is over 1 1/2 hrs away I have plenty of tools but lack that dry location to perform the work.

So it was and is in rare form for me to do something like that as well but it was done.

IDZRVIT 06-08-2011 06:23 PM

Well, my driver's side window has wore through the cloth top at the exact spot shown in the TSB. Passenger side is ok, for now. So, I took a trip over to the dealer. Neither one of us wants to replace the top as the replacement top may never fit quite the same as the original so the service manager suggested I drop by Apple Auto Glass (they also do upholstery) and see if the damage can be repaired. Apple said in order to repair the damage the cloth top would need to be removed. He also said, and I have no reason to doubt him, that he is the only one in town that has the expertise to replace the top. On his further inspection of the top he noticed something else that may be of interest to all roadster members. When we opened the top he stopped midway through and noticed that the 'lip' of the top at the bottom centre at the rear of the frame directly below the rear window was no longer tucked under the frame. Hope that made sense. So, the service manager will be calling me tomorrow to discuss the way ahead but it looks like a new top. I haven't had any other issues with the top such as tearing some of you have had. Sitrep tomorrow.

IDZRVIT 06-17-2011 05:31 AM

My dealer will replace the top. We agreed to wait until the fall when the weather begins to cool. The windows will be adjusted at that time. Any of you lads have this problem with your tops? I'm sorta surprised that a TSB has been issued for this and no one other than Tn370Z and myself have the problem. There are a lot more guys complaining about a top tearing problem but no TSB on that issue.:ugh2:

DWS44 01-16-2012 09:34 PM

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but as a warning to others, I just ran into the simlar situation to what tn370z did!

I just bought my '10 roadster used a few weeks ago, w/ mileage a hair over 15k. Still well within B2B on both mileage and time. Noticed when I got it that the drivers side window rubbed a little, but wasn't till I was cleaning it up that I noticed that the passenger side rubbed quite a bit making it hard to actually open. Researched on the board and found this TSB, but admittedly didnt read thru the whole thread till tonight (silly me). I guess it didn't concern the original owner enough to bother getting it looked at.

Anyways...took it in to local Nissan to get the TSB performed this morning, even giving them the TSB# I found. Go to pick it up later this evening and the service writer tells me I owe her $43 in parts/labor. I was like, WTF? Its a known issue on a TSB for pete's sake. She was like, OH, I called Nissan for warranty confirmation, and they said it was no longer covered after that 12,000 mile "adjustment" crock of ^%#. :shakes head:

At first I said the heck with it and actually paid it...then the lady says "ok, lets go look at it together because the couldn't adjust them far enough to completely stop rubbing". I was like...let me get this straight...you are charging me to correct a KNOWN issue with this car...WHILE I'm clearly w/in B2B warranty...and now you tell me you didnt actually fix it either?!? I'm usually a quiet person, but at that point I went ballistic.:mad::mad:

At one point I had two service writers, the shop foreman, and service manager all out there trying to explain what the deal supposedly was. (It was actually fixed...there was still a slight rub on the weather stripping, but no longer rubbing the cloth top) Maybe I was right, maybe not, but the more I stood there, the more pi$$ed I got at having been charged for a KNOWN issue. Eventually they gave in and offered a credit toward future service, but I stuck to my guns until they finally credited it back to my credit card instead.

So...sorry this rant got to be so long (guess I needed to vent), but anyone going in for this TSB after your 12k Mile mark, be forewarned that this "adjustment" edict apparently came down directly from Nissan...so you may have a fight on your hands, too. :shakes head:

Just came across this thread... I just purchased my 2010 Roadster a few weeks ago and noticed the top is torn in the exact area of this TSB because the window is catching. So from what I understand even if the car is still under B2B warranty they will not cover this fix?

Thanks.

It should be covered. There is nothing in te TSB that limits the time whem coverage would run out.

Cool... It is a very small tear that you actually have to look for but it is there.

I hope it's covered... Will report back.

tn370z 09-14-2012 10:58 AM

I still have a copy of the TSB covering this and no where does it state the extent the damage has to be nor does it limit the size of the tear and I see nowhere that it states the length of time you have to report this damage.

SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. If the soft top fabric is damaged:
a. Replace the soft top fabric (cover).
2. If the soft top fabric is not damaged adjust the window

In the end they did what was right but only after a little discussion with me. I was OK until they stated that the person who installed the tint onto my door glass was the one who maladjusted my windows when they took them out.

 I then proceeded to show them the ASE Certification Tech cards I still carry from when I was in the Automotive Repair business and let them know very quickly that I was present when the windows were tinted and that the Glass was never removed nor were the adjustment bolts tampered with.

They stated their techs said that was the only way to tint the glass below the door seals and I then proceeded to tell them that if their techs did not know how to do it I could go show them how since I was the one who showed the people installing the tint how it should be done.

Of course they just went ahead and reimbursed me for the glass adjustments and replaced the top with no further questions.

Two days after I got it back the weather cleared up. SO I finally let the new top down for my first time and I found the little Square Bat-wing cover on the passengers side, that goes down to cover a hole when the top is down, had a crack in it. Well the wifie noticed it. So I started to put the top back up and looked underneath and you could see where someone had taken, what appeared to be a soldering iron, and attempted to repair where it had been broken. :shakes head:

http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ue/batwing.jpg

I took it back again and let them know real NICE LIKE :D that I can understand the damage but what really pissed me off was someone trying to repair and then HIDE it from me. This time when I pointed this out there were no questions
asked they ordered the complete assembly for the drivers and passengers side. They installed it for no charge and again gave me a vehicle to drive for the day.

In the end I am happy. They still have me as a customer but they now know who I am by name when ever they see me and what I mean by they is "I am pretty sure anyone who works at the dealership".

I did not say they like me but they do like my $$$. Well I guess they do since I have had very little done there that cost me anything yet.

I am pretty sure they now know I do check behind them.

Now everyone with a Nissan 370Z Roadster (Convertible) knows how to perform the following don't they??

If the power window automatic function (closing only) does not operate properly, perform the following procedure to initialize the power window system.

1. Push the ignition switch to the ON position.
2. Close the door.
3. Open the window completely by operating
the power window switch.
4. Pull the power window switch and hold it to
close the window, and then hold the switch
more than 3 seconds after the window is
closed completely.
5. Release the power window switch. Operate
the window by the automatic function to
confirm the initialization is complete.
6. Perform steps 2 through 5 above for other
windows.

Fabric top damage update....

Well finally made time to take the roadster to the dealer with a copy of the TSB in hand. The service advisor said he would contact Nissan and let me know. I am happy to report that Nissan will replace my fabric top and make all necessary adjustments to prevent future damage all under warranty

Just wanted to report back in case any of you ran across the same issue.
