Lid Cover contacting Roof
Hello all,
I just want to see if anyone else has a concern I'm experiencing. Everytime I open the top, when the lid starts moving towards an up/open position, it contacts the roof and hits one of the metal supports (obviously on the canvas side). Has anyone else have this issue? It used to be cold weather related, now, even when ambient temps are around mid 70's, this happens. |

I saw it once or twice with mine, but it was when I was installing my stereo so I had the rood partially open (which your not supposed to do) and was messing with things so I hadn't really thought about it. I haven't gotten to open the roof lately but I'll have to pay more attention when it warms up

Most deffinitely! It happens on my driver side. There was a black piece of ruber located on the tip of the lid that will make a loud band against the the ruber trimming under the base of the ragtop. I noticed that I could manually lift the base of the ragtop a little higher to prevent this from happens but it's kind of defeat the purpose of having an automatic convertible roof

It doesn't seem like temperature should matter, but it was Very cold when mine did it as well (like 6 )

Having to lift my automatic roof out of the way though, on my brand new car, would annoy the crap out of me though so I would bring it in. Inevitably if I didn't the roof would end up damaged Of course if/ when I do, I'll probably regret it... and end up with a ****** up roof anyway but at least it will be logged in the computer (So far my dealership actually seems like they might be competent though, but I haven't really tested that yet theory yet)

Temperature definitely matters...the fabric gets stiffer the colder it gets...another reason why I haven't had it modified...afraid the dealer will dial in too much tension for when it's hot. I think there's also a blurb in the manual saying something like don't operate the top below freezing or some such nonsense. You'll be fine.

I wonder if there's a way that we can fix this ourselves. It shouldn't be that hard to dial it to proper tension right? The only risk is that the dealer might void the warranty.
On the other hand, it might be true that "cold weather" is the major contributor to this. I bought mine in November so it has been cold all along. Perhaps I can wait until the summer before bringing it into the dealer.

I wasn't paying enough attention to determine what was rubbing, or why. But that makes sense

Thanks everyone for the input. I'll most likely end up taking this to the dealer for service. My issue was first noticed in cold weather, but when it warmed up, I still noticed this issue. I'll keep y'all posted on the dealer fix. I'll try to take it in some time this month.

Hi guys! I just sprayed those moving parts with some lubricant and it seemed to clear the top without any problems. Give it a try, it migh help.
